The author then went on in another chapter to argue that its roots are with the enlightenment which divides the world into `facts' and `feelings'. Miller points us back to the reality that the stories we have been given, by God, are ultimately His story, not ours. As a result, the overall impression of Jesus that Miller ends up presenting fits this image of passivity and weakness. Somewhere in the middle of the book, it begins to dawn on you that a relationship with God that is guided by prayer just might be attainable.It might be true, but I think I’m underlining it just ‘cuz is sounds kinda cool and I could put it on Twitter.

I appreciate this approach to viewing prayers for others in our lives be it a child, parent, friend or spouse. Their (Millers congregation used in his illustration) initial negative reaction makes sense: Laments do feel disrespectful. It was formerly a print journal operated by RTSF/UCCF in the UK, and it became a digital journal operated by The Gospel Coalition in 2008. I recommend this book to anyone who would like to be engaged in prayer but feels discouraged, distant, confused, too tired or bored with the whole idea. The specific challenge was to read the book, and post about the results of a personal 30 days of real prayer, implementing the principles from the book in my own prayer life.I've been encouraged to trust God for impossible answers, and above all, I've been made very aware of my spiritual shortcomings with regard to the discipline of regular, personal prayer.
