About this deal

The result is a whisky with smooth, nutty layers of dark chocolate, waves of vanilla, heather honey and dried fruits and underlying notes of creamy toffee and butterscotch - all perfectly balanced by the rich, fruity, sweet apple and delicate apricot character of Glenury Royal. At the heart of this whisky lies the Highland single malt Glenury Royal, from the distillery of the same name that shut its doors in 1985. Inspired by the enigmatic and alluring umami flavour profile, they've masterfully handpicked whiskies, fusing salty, smoky, and savoury notes to achieve the perfect umami experience.

The palate brings rich fruity notes of green apple characteristic of Glenury Royal, as well as creamy buttersoctch toffee and heather honey, before a long and satisfying finish. Special ex-cuvée casks give a truly exquisite profile to this bottling, one of only 5,100 released and has no added colouring or chill-filtration for a perfectly natural taste.Only 1 in 10,000 casks from our unparalleled reserves of aging Scotch is considered to have the depth of character needed to craft this exceptionally smooth whisky. Glenury Royal gives this whisky notes of sumptuous orchard fruits, sweet apple and delicate apricot. Other very rare whiskies bring aromas of dark fruit and berries before revealing gentle butterscotch, stewing orchard fruits and a dash of cinnamon. Johnnie Walker’s Ghost and Rare series has brought some long lost names back into the public eye, and this time it’s the turn of Glenury Royal to be thrust into the limelight.

Closed down in 1993 after an 18 year run, it is known as one of the shortest-lived distilleries in Scotland.

The flavour is smoky due to the barley being exposed to the peat smoke during production, and if you are a fan of this distinctive flavour, you will enjoy our selection of Johnnie Walker whiskies.
