In the previous three books, the title of each installment starts with the name “Genghis” at the front of their title; this one starts with “Khan.

At least you tried to explain the real ending in the historical notes, but anyone not familiar with that history would have closed the pages unknowingly confused. In Conn Iggulden’s latest historical epic, join Pericles, the lion of Athens, on his journey to secure the fate of the Athenian empire.

This help is snubbed and rising Athenian leader Pericles realises that whilst it may take Sparta time to recover, they will always be an enemy. These have not been my favourite books by the author, but I did enjoy reading them and they are worth looking at if you are interested in the famous characters and events of this period of history. Pericles also saw opportunity and he decided that the time had come to protect Athens and he was instrumental in bringing forward plans to protect his empire. He also explains how he has compressed some of the years and has omitted some ‘actions, skirmishes, insults and general breakdown of good relations between the two states and their allies. I appreciate there's a lot of story to tell regarding the Peloponnesian wars and it may be hard to fit it all in a single book but I thought the ending was extremely rushed and very disappointing.

At the inside of the book you'll find a well-drawn map of the Ancient Greek World, a few pages with names pronunciation, while at the back you'll notice a Historical Note with historical details concerning this great story. The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened. As young Gaius and Marcus grow to manhood, they are trained in the art of combat—under the tutelage of one of Rome’s most fearsome gladiators. This was a very enjoyable read and I sincerely hope that this series will continue as I’m definitely a fan!

The author will always tell readers that he has changed certain things to assist in the telling of the overall story. As the drums of battle draw closer, can Pericles rise to victory once more—or will the world's greatest empire fall under his watch? This was done either with straight-out fighting and wars or in a sneaky way with spies, the odd slip of a knife and political undermining within the Assembly.Reread excluded, Genghis: Birth of an Empire ended up becoming my first full 5-stars rating in two months. The author ensures, as always, that all the main characters are well-rounded and believable in every sense. He took a few liberties with Caesar’s life, but then he probable did with Genghis Khan and did with the Wars of the Roses series too. Which is a wrong thing to say because he and the Mongols killed so many people back then, but my god looking back on the events as a history, you just can’t help but be amazed by what one or two or a few humans can do to change the shape of the world, almost entirely.
