About this deal

The bottom and top sound heaviness to the DT880 gives it a rather bland and uninvolving mid and vocal section with not enough mid bass to my ears. I still have to give the HD 600 a slight edge in the mid-range, but I feel this is overshadowed by the 880's superior treble extension and soundstage. The DT 880 is made of almost all metal, and real metal, no pot metal like much of the Sennheiser HD800. I'm paring them with a very warm analog DAP[DAC] (Hifiman Hm 601) and using a cMoy Bass Boost to give the bass that extra bit of KICK [+9. There are echoing low notes throughout the track, they are easily followed without being presented in a forward manner, adding to the ambiance of the track, lastly the mids are front and center.

Padding is great, even with the firm clamping force out of box, the ear pads did a great job of eliminating pressure.Custom colours and textures can be picked for almost every part of the headphone individually, there is even an option of a real leather headband. Sound quality: Sound presentation here is very neutral, and is very much helpful for critical listening.

The audio is generally transferred via a generic USB cable to a DAC, using WASAPI - event style on JRiver's MC17 ( buffering from the RAM) . Headphone reference notes - I like to demo all headphones against my Beyerdynamic Dt 880, as they are a well know reference can.Compared to the Ultrasone Edition 8, the DT 880 lacks bass for enjoying movies, but for music, these DT 880s have far cleaner and open sound.

Higher impedance headphones will also have less distortion with portable equipment, however portable equipment usually doesn't have enough output voltage to drive higher impedance headphones as loud as many people want them to go. dt880 pro with aune t1 is one sweet combo that is kind to your wallet, sweet to your soul and brings sparkle to your life and that is before you even start tube rolling. Whereas the cans are nice aluminium, the headband fastening and adjusting points are extemely cheap plastic, which made the whole headphone feels flimsy. A proper headphone amp should be able drive these to about 7 V RMS or 20 dBm or 100 mW into 600 Ω, which is more than deafening. Moreover, due to its tuning, bass quantity can be scarce for some making it feel quite anemic however that is not in my case as I do really quite like the presentation of the bass that is less boomy but tight and fast.Damn, I hate the nature of this game but seems like once you go mid-fi, you realize summit-fi is for the people with unrealistic expecations. Detail level is almost same in both cans, it just appears like HD600 does not quite retrieve the detail due to its thicker sonic presentation. For movies, I do believe its lack of bass is its downfall as it can make scenes sound drier than in other sources due to lack of presence of bass. The generous padding on the headband can be removed and replaced or cleaned easily by undoing the button clips, another feature not available on the DT 990.

They do kind of get warm so i have to take them off every half an our for about 4 seconds then put them back on.The original 1988 DT990 is much more muffled, but the old DT990 has sparklier (smoothly boosted) highs. As for soundstage, there are hints of 3D in it, but it's too narrow and shallow to precisely position instruments. I did find them reasonable for positional gaming, and they do not feel overly cramped - but they definitely are not airy or expansive either. These cans have an incredibly wide soundstage and are very comfortable to listen to for prolonged periods of time.
