About this deal

The screams from his fans during ‘Love Me Tender’ again show the amazing interaction Elvis had with his audience, and again a short clip from here features in the film.

I Can't Stop Loving You • Hound Dog •Bridge Over Troubled Water • Suspicious Minds • For The Good Times • An American Trilogy • Love Me Tender • A Big Hunk O' Love • How Great Thou Art • Sweet, Sweet Spirit (Performed by The Stamps) • Lawdy, Miss Clawdy • Can't Help Falling In Love • Proud Mary •Heartbreak Hotel • It's Over • Funny How Time Slips Away • Burning Love • Release Me (And Let Me Love Again) • Johnny B. Presley was undertaking a 15-city tour, and the film crew led by directors Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel (Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen) would capture four of those shows in Hampton, Virginia; Richmond, Virginia; Greensboro, North Carolina; and San Antonio, Texas. As an official soundtrack album for Elvis On Tour was never issued at the time of the movie's original release, the upcoming box fills in a major gap in the Presley discography.

Some of this material has been surveyed on past releases, though it's all been remixed for this outing. Quite a few songs are heard only at rehearsals including "Separate Ways" (which would be released as a single in October 1972), the beautiful "Always on My Mind," "Johnny B. All the info and thus the anticipation for the Elvis releases on RCA and FTD the fans get from you, you really help to keep Elvis Legacy alive. Though the set is by its nature aimed at collectors and completists, the energetic performances are broadly enjoyable, capturing a period in which Presley was still introducing fresh and varied material into his setlists.

When every CD in the 'Elvis Live 69' set was clearly labelled with which concert and date why are the six cds here only numbered? A quote from the film reveals how deliberate the song selection was: "I start going through the list of songs and it must be 400 or 500 songs.

Multiple shows and rehearsals were filmed by Pierre Adidge and Robert Abel to compose this documentary. A present piano, the bass is good, The Sweet Inspirations and James Burton's lead guitar are present. The booklet features an interesting article by Warren Zanes ‘Elvis’ Road To Freedom’ that helps to explain where Elvis’ legacy sat in 1972 in respect to the on-going ‘Rock’n’Roll fifties’ revival as well as RCA’s handling of Elvis’ legacy. The penultimate ‘Funny How Time’ ends with Elvis cutely joking about hitting the last note, “think I can’t hit that note. Most disappointing to me is the neglect of Ronnie Tutt's drums - a bit more present in the quiet parts, but way too much in the background especially in the groovy parts.

It was fun listening to the concerts on CD and then remebering which tracks were actually shown in the movie. Critic Howell Raines pointed out that Adidge and Abel failed to present Presley's "appeal as a performer". A seven-disc set, with the audio selections available in digital and physical configurations, the Elvis On Tour box set includes six audio discs (premiering previously unreleased Elvis concert performances and studio rehearsals) and Warner Bros.

The fact that these four wonderful performances have finally been released, both remixed and remastered in glorious quality, is a real joy. Elvis On Tour is a 6 CD and 1 Blu-ray box set comprised of the audio from four of the shows (and two rehearsals) that were part of Elvis’ 1972 North American tour. Polk Salad Annie’, again included in the movie, has a great Jerry Scheff sound and pumping Ronnie Tutt drums. EIN NOTE:We did comment about the 'I Got A Woman' issue with RCA's recording at the start of Hampton Roads. Following the four core concerts, the box then surveys Presley's rehearsals at RCA Studios in Hollywood on March 30-31, 1972. And even if Elvis had put on little weight since TTWII, he sure appears involved in all the performances and still looks terrific / iconic in most of the deliciously selected shots. However if you think you’ve seen this idea before you are right as it was also used in the booklet of the 2010 DVD/ BluRay release.
