About this deal

g. NH-D15 or NH-U14S TR4-SP3) may overhang the RAM slots and that this can cause compatibility issues if RAM modules taller than 32mm are used. Our CPU compatibility list helps you to choose the cooler model that is best suited for a given CPU and your individual requirements as far as turbo and overclocking headroom are concerned.

Both SilverStone AP181 – 180mm fans were connected together to the chassis 1 connector and were rotating at maximum speed. Unlike the NH-L9a-AM4 above, the NH-L12s is more than just a replacement product with a different mounting system, it’s a redesigned cooler. We went for option 1 (the heatsink parallel to the RAM slots) just because it gives me access to the RAM stick and the other can be removed just by sliding the fan across enough to clear.Just like the original NH-L12 the NH-L12S features a total of four 6mm nickel plated copper heatpipes. Low-profile mode – the fan is installed on the bottom of the heat-sink and can be positioned to blow towards the motherboard or through the fins stack. The self-developed fans from Noctua are also largely responsible for this, which are also available separately to serve as case, CPU or radiator fans.

It belongs to the L-type coolers, so the four heatpipes in an L-shape from the cooling surface into the slats of the cooling block. The connection between the propeller and the frame is done by а 4-pin PWM powered and regulated SSO2 Bearing to deliver stable, long life operation and low noise operation. Run with the NF-A12x15 fan installed on top, the NH-L12S provides extended clearance underneath the fin stack. With the fully assembled cooler, let’s pay attention to the mounting kit and proceed with the tests. This cooler features the typical for the company silver/brown/pink colour scheme which when placed inside entirely black case, doesn’t really fit well but this is just my point of view. Anybody who has been near their share of computer systems will appreciate that not all systems make the same amount of noise. Complying with the open SecuFirm™ standard, the cooler can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. These monikers may seem somewhat familiar, which is no surprise, as these are the aforementioned iterative improvements over the previous generation.

Once this is stable, I start Prime95 Blend, and let the system heatsoak and hit a steady maximum temperature. multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke. The copper base had been nickel plated after the milling process, and if you look closely we can still see fine lines left in the finish. The NH-L12S includes Noctua’s offset mounting bars for AM5 that make it possible to install the cooler shifted towards the south side of the socket by 7mm, thereby achieving better contact quality right above the CCD(s). After that I am going to check all of the features of the product and of course at the end of the article I will give the cooler some stress by letting it cool my AMD FX8350 processor.Passionate about testing and reviewing, AMD overclocking using AM3 990FXA and AMD FM2 A85X test systems and building modding projects.

Of course, when the cooler is installed in smaller cases it will definitely reveal its benefits and full potential. Topped off with the trusted, pro-grade SecuFirm2™ multi-socket mounting system, Noctua’s proven NT-H1 thermal compound and a full 6-year manufacturer’s warranty, the NH-L12S is a premium-quality low-profile solution for the highest demands. The cooler has excellent cooling performance in its class, but is not suitable for overclocking and should be used with caution on processors with more than 95W TDP (Thermal Design Power). Its not that it draws too much power but simply the extra two thermal layers in its heat transfer profile that inevitably increases the heat source temperature. Depending on the system, there should be an expected deviation from baseline, like in this situation where you're running SFX. I know the Fractal terra is a small case and airflow isn't optimal, but I'm just not sure if this is normal. The heatsink has a simple design and is placed at a distance from the base of the cooler, this is mainly due to allow the installation of a 120mm fan on the underside of the heatsink.
