About this deal

Cameras like this have increased demand and got folk like Ricoh/Pentax interesting in making cameras again. I doubt it would last a decade or two with heavy use but I certainly would expect to more than a dozen rolls through this. All Agfaphoto did was alter the film compartment box to mask for half frame and tweak the winder cogs.

Photos that we can only see after they are developed but that we can touch, stick, cut or even give away.CameraWorld is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, registration number 689327. No LCD screen, just a viewfinder; no second chance to delete a failed shot but an authentic printed rendering and an unequalled grain. Using the flash setting with battery out opens the aperture wider allowing for some flexibility in daylight shooting if light drops.

The AgfaPhoto brand is licensed by German photographic company Plawa which sells a modest line of AgfaPhoto Sensor compact digital cameras. We put a roll of AgfaPhoto APX 400 in one of these cameras and took it out around Dulwich Park in South London. Worn by older enthusiasts and a new generation that is regaining a taste for paper photography after having been immersed in and growing up in the digital “everything”.A whole series of these Agfamatic cameras was launched twice, the first series using magicubes and the second, flipflash. The eagle eyed amongst you will realise that this is the same lens fixed focus lens as the full frame (and pretty much every other Dubblefilm/M35 clone).

On the left is an image captured on the camera using Kentmere 400 but on the right is an approximation of the view in the finder from a crop of my smartphone taken at the same spot. The only differences on inspection is the viewfinder and the change in the film frame of the Half frame in (bottom) compared to the full frame version (top). Currently (2012), Agfa-Gevaert (Belgium) is still producing industrial film for the medical, semiconductor and graphic press industry.

By August 2013 the older rolls were used up and they began marketing a new version of the film now with a "New Emulsion" badging and marked Made in EU. Also, check out the Lomography Simple Use camera with coloured filters on the flash for cool effects. Several of Rietzschel's cameras were continued, including the Isolar and Ninon, but in 1926 the first real Agfa camera was introduced, the Standard, in both plate/film pack and roll film models. Suitable for ISO200/400/800 35mm films and has a 31mm f9 Focus Free Lens with a 1/120s fixed shutter speed.

As part of the merger, Agfa obtained the Rietzschel camera works in Munich from Bayer, and badged all Rietzschel products with its Agfa rhombus. Although the format never completely died the rise of the ultra compacts like the Olympus XA and the relative cost of film and processing dropping meant that they fell out of fashion. In the following year it popularized photography in Germany by dumping the Box 44 for 4 Reichsmark, easily recouping its losses afterwards by selling Agfa 120 roll films.
