About this deal

Cervical orthoses are used in the management of patients following cervical spine injury or surgery to provide stability and protection to the spinal cord by reducing spinal motion. Plain film radiography [ 7, 8], cineradiography [ 9, 10], videofluoroscopy [ 11], computerised tomography [ 12], magnetic resonance imaging [ 13], video and electromyography [ 14], digital inclinometry [ 15], stereophotogrammetry [ 16], electrogoniometry [ 17] and motion analysis systems [ 1– 3, 18, 19] have been used to measure cervical spine motion. Flare tabs on the neck and around the chin provide secure stabilization and ensure a truly custom fit. Combining the award winning Vista ® Collar with adjustable back panel providing maximum motion restriction and optimal comfort from any collar available today.

Collar can also be used for other reasons than just a fracture like post-operatively and in a small number of cases comfort. The positioning of markers on to bony landmarks is thought to be subject to observer bias, while the interposing soft tissue between the markers and bony landmarks is thought to create movement artefact. The Aspen and Philadelphia were significantly more effective at restricting flexion/extension than the Vista ( p < 0. It is important that you wear your cervical hard collar at all times so as to ensure maximum effect and minimise further injury (unless your doctor tells you otherwise). There is currently no literature available on their ability to restrict cervical spine motion relative to their respective standard designs. The structural elements of the collar have been designed to spread support across broad contact surfaces thereby minimizing hot-spots that can cause decubitus ulcers. Some studies have used the occiput, to represent the C1 vertebra, and the spinous process of C7 as a model for determining gross cervical spine motion. Before you are discharged from hospital you will need to be able to apply and remove your collar without the assistance of a healthcare professional. You should avoid standing still or sitting for prolonged periods as this will cause your back to stiffen and your posture to deteriorate.

Clean the front and back panels of the collar and replace the soiled pads with clean ones as directed below. The collar should rest comfortably against your body, with only the padded areas touching your skin. If you are sitting in preparation to stand please sit for a moment before standing to ensure you do not become dizzy. The Vista Collar from Aspen Medical Products improves patient care while saving time, money and storage space. Finally, it should be noted that cervical orthoses are not the only means of restricting spinal motion. You will be given advice for this and we recommend you decrease the time spent in the collar daily over a few days.

Unwanted movement of the head markers was minimised using a specially designed Velcro headband to which the marker cluster was applied. Use this "height" measurement to choose the correct size collar: You can also print out our Aspen cervical collar collar sizing guide card below and use that as shown below to determine the correct size collar required. Please note: It is only safe to remove the collar in a sitting position if your medical team have advised that it is safe to do so, and you are confident that you (or the person you are helping) can keep your / their neck completely still throughout the process.

There are multiple different causes of this, but most commonly, it is due to a cervical spine fracture.

If you experience any continuing weakness or a limited ability to move your neck, a physiotherapy review might be of benefit. The cervical collar should be tight enough to prevent movement of your neck, for example restrict ‘yes’ and ‘no’ movements however not completely restrictive so that it affects you’re breathing or swallowing. It is usually safe to resume working at a desk as soon as you feel ready to do so, but please discuss with the clinician at your follow up appointment before resuming any manual work. Integrating innovative features of the Aspen Collar helps ensure the balance between motion restriction and gentle care is achieved.
