This isn’t a problem when used on a flight of stairs, but you’ll want to position the Dyson behind a bed or an unmovable object when cleaning all the nook and crannies in a room. Stick on a tool and use the cleaner as it’s meant to be used and the Light Ball is a very quiet cleaner indeed. The Light Ball uses close to half the power of Dyson’s Big Ball Cinetic (700W power consumption compared to 1300W) yet gives away only 25% in suction power.

If you have pets or humans in the household that shed a lot of long hair, I’d suggest opting for the Light Ball Animal, instead. Only a little, though, and we didn’t have any real issues using extra elbow grease to get it moving. The preset was certainly powerful enough to deal with mud whether it was on hard flooring or carpet. The Dyson’s overall performance is impressive, to say the least, and one shouldn’t forget it has a smaller 700W motor, yet outperforms other upright vacuum cleaners that have close to double the advertised power. The mid-setting sees the vents closed, but little plastic lugs on the floor plate withdraw into the head to reduce stick-down.

The on board tools and the way they are stowed is great, the added feature with the tools is that instead of just being push on, they have a button lock which stops the tool from moving or coming off. What's more, since there's no bag to replace, the Dyson upright vacuum is not only more eco-friendly, but helps to keep the costs down in the long run: simply empty the dust compartment when it's full and attach it back - easy as that! For instance, cleaning by the kitchen’s skirting boards head-on was simple, and didn’t require me to fetch the crevice tool.
