Duran Duran's blend of acoustic and electronic is one reason why "Save a Prayer" works so well. It also contributed to the song's success. So well produced (of course), but also so melodic and irresistibly catchy. Yes, there are two or three nice patches and the airy feeling, and the video shot at an exotic location That's what I LOVE on these 80ies (and 90ies) songs. You can think hours about the lyrics and what they mean, and every time you hear something different... I absolutely love the melody of this song. It is so beautiful. What I love is the fact that despite being released over 20 odd years ago, the song still sounds fresh as does most of DD's songs. The somewhat tranquilizing melody combined with Simon's dreamy vocals make for a stunning song. a b c d Marks, Craig; Tannenbaum, Rob (2011). Single: at approximately 4:35 "Save a prayer 'til the morning after" is repeated 4 times until fade out. Simon Le Bon wrote the lyrics to the song while the band was on tour. The lyrics are about a chance meeting between two people that turns into a one-night stand. According to Le Bon, the song's chorus structure is based on Gordon Lightfoot's "If You Could Read My Mind" and the lyrics as being contrary to the then-popular New Romantic movement by being "realistic, and not romantic" and "for seeing things as they really are." He sums up "Save A Prayer" as "It's definitely a freedom song but like a kinda nobody owns anybody kinda song." (Source). fluffy_little_something wrote:I always found that song and melody very uplifting, nothing sad about it in my view... The release was accompanied by a new live video, drawn from footage shot in 1984 for the concert film Arena. My interpretation of the meaning is very simple - two lonely strangers meet up in presumably a foreign place (this I figured from the exotic location in the video) and hook up for one night with no intention to take it any further than that.

AllMusic journalist Donald A. Guarisco described the new wave ballad [7] in a retrospective review, as being "a lilting epic". He wrote: "The music maintains the stormily romantic quality of the lyric by combining meditative verses with an aching chorus that swells and ebbs in a way that perfectly captures the song's heartbreak." Save a Prayer" is the sixth single by English new wave band Duran Duran. It is from their second studio album Rio. It went to number 2 in the United Kingdom and Ireland. A live version was released in 1984 from their live album Arena. It was covered in 2015 by Eagles of Death Metal. The only story about this one is that I was obsessed by a song in the seventies when I was a little boy called If You Could Read My Mind. Does anyone know that song, by Gordon Lightfoot? You know, "bout a ghost from a wishing well" "if you could read my mind, love" and you know there's that bit [sings this part] "don't say a prayer for me now" [from Save A Prayer, not If You Could Read My Mind] well it kinda comes from [singing again, getting you to hear how close the melody is] "and you won't read that book again" It actually inspired two songs, two Duran Duran songs and this is one of them, this is Save A Prayer" EODM (Eagles of Death Metal) – Save a Prayer" (in French).
