Battery performance: A measure of how long it took for devices to charge (for the rechargeable brushes we tested) and how long it took for all models to run out of battery.

The brush is powered by sonic pulse technology that cleans at a maximum of 11,000 pulsations per minute. The head is made of silicone and PBT polymer bristles, which are now super flexible, which gives it a very different feel to other toothbrushes. Unlike the others, you’re supposed to use it like a regular toothbrush, scrubbing up and down and in circles rather than holding it against the teeth. But others won’t last as long – we found the least powerful brush needed recharging after just 16 brushes. Prices are slightly higher than most plastic brushes, as is often the case with environmentally-friendly alternatives, but they are not prohibitively expensive. For reasons of hygiene and safety, personal grooming products, cosmetics or items of intimate clothing cannot be returned. Interdental brushes are specially designed to clean between teeth and reach other areas that a regular toothbrush can't. Many people find that using an interdental toothbrush is easier than flossing, while others do both as part of a thorough oral hygiene routine.Wisdom also make a range of ‘Clean Between' rubber interdental brushes. The soft rubber filaments are gentle on gums and safe for use around implants, metal fillings and crowns, and braces. They come in three sizes: fine (blue), medium (green) and large (purple).

To make things more complicated, brush heads come in different types designed for different dental requirements, so you’ll find Sonicare heads for gum care, deeper cleaning or plaque defence, and Oral-B heads with slightly different brushing actions. Any Sonicare head can be used with any Sonicare brush, but Oral B’s standard heads can only be used with its Pro-series brushes, while its iO heads only work with iO series brushes. Not everyone wants the bother of an app-enhanced dental routine, so if you’d rather spend a little less but still get a great toothbrush, then the iO Series 3 could be for you. It delivers the same magnetic drive technology as the other brushes in Oral-B’s flagship iO-Series range, but comes without the advanced sensors and Bluetooth connectivity to monitor your brushing and send the data to your smartphone. In practice, that means a quieter brush with a more comfortable vibration, and one that still leaves your incisors feeling polished and your molars super-clean, as well as doing a fantastic job of clearing plaque from between your teeth. Dual head – As the name implies, these electric toothbrushes combine two heads in one – one part rotates and the other sweeps from side to side. Just like a normal toothbrush, you should rinse interdental brushes after each use to keep them clean. Should you use toothpaste with interdental toothbrushes? Battery life Some electric toothbrushes have a battery that can hold a charge for over a month, while the worst we’ve tested will provide just over a week of brushing time. Recharging times vary massively, too. The fastest will go from empty to full charge in less than five hours, but the slowest will have you waiting over a day before they’re fully charged.

However, the best reason to get the DiamondClean 9000 is that you’re still getting the best clean available in the Sonicare range. The Deep Clean + mode might even be too intense for some people, but you can turn down the intensity or switch to the regular Clean or White + mode to enjoy a clean that will leave your teeth feeling polished, and even get rid of much of the plaque and debris that can accumulate between your teeth. Meanwhile, the Gum Health mode is brilliant for treating and toughening up soft gums. I expected a lot from this brand, which was founded by two cosmetic dentists, and the Spotlight Oral Care Sonic Toothbrush more than delivered. Brushing your teeth regularly is essential. It keeps your breath fresh and helps maintain your oral health: Brushing twice a day for at least 2 minutes is one of the most important things you can do to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

You should use your interdental brush to clean between teeth in this way once a day, while still brushing in the normal way twice a day. See our teeth-brushing guide for more about how to brush your teeth properly. Try inserting the brush from the inside (next to the tongue or the roof of the mouth) rather than the outsideWhen it comes to sonic toothbrushes, you’re looking for any toothbrush that delivers more than 30,000 sonic vibrations per minute to encourage ‘fluid dynamic activity’: this is where the sonic waves massage the salivary glands, stimulating more saliva. The saliva binds with the water and toothpaste to act as a stronger cleaning agent. Combined with the sonic vibrations from the toothbrush, this helps to better remove plaque and clean harder-to-reach areas of the mouth. Well, you're in the right place because we are going to answer these questions – and more – in our guide to interdental brushes.

The best electric toothbrushes you can buy in 2023 1. Oral-B Vitality Pro: Best cheap electric toothbrush Rotating-oscillating – These electric toothbrushes have small, round heads and are one of the most popular brushes in the Oral B range. The head oscillates – rotates in one direction and then the other – around one tooth at a time to sweep away plaque.Accessories – travel cases or glass tumblers that double as chargers are just two of the fancy accessories available when you pay more. The ICON interdental brushes from Stoddard come in a full range of eight sizes, including a white 0.35mm brush which is the smallest of all those we've featured here. If you find that other brands of brush are too large to fit between your teeth, this could be worth a try. Gently press the brush into the space between two teeth, along the gum. Twisting the brush slightly as you insert it can make insertion easier and also extend the life of the brush.
