Description

He loved the story and asked for it daily, and then repeated the title when Mama said no more nursies before bed or during the night.

We are just about to try night weaning so I am reading it to her and at 22 months she seems to enjoy it. Open Library is an initiative of the Internet Archive, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. At that point, even with co-sleeping, I was exhausted and crabby and not the best mother I could be – so I knew nightweaning was what I needed to do for our family.I can tell she really relates to the toddler in the book and is delighted when we get to the part where she nurses in the morning while getting a kiss from dad.

Le but est donc d’amener la notion de sevrage nocturne (c’est à dire de ne plus prendre le sein pendant la nuit) aux enfants allaités. When the toddler wakes at night for “nursies,” mom shows her baby that it’s dark outside, and assures baby that she’ll have nursies when the sun shines. When reading, I replaced the word with "mama milk" which is what I refer to it for my son Forrest and his head kinda perked up like "hmm" and he paid attention to the story - so did my older daughter. This book has been a glorious accompaniment to our gentle night weaning plan, and is my daughter's current favorite read!

If you don't co-sleep this probably wouldn't work because it's all about the family sleeping together - but it's perfect for the majority who are looking for gentle night weaning help. Now, I am only waking once a night to pee and to snack (thank you, baby en utero), but hey, at least it is no longer 4 times a night to twilight feed my toddler! If you are in the very specific niche of being a cosleeping, breastfeeding family wanting to night wean your toddler, this book is for you. Night feeding is not an easy thing to give up, but I knew when I was ready, even if she wasn't quite. My book is Nursies When the Sun Shines and it’s a book that is meant to help moms communicate with their toddlers that nursing is for the daytime and that nighttime is for sleeping. I've come to the conclusion that my daughter isn't quite ready for night weening, but I think this book will help in the future.

I read it to them a few times while nursing so they'd be distracted (and not want to touch the book) but overall I wasn't impressed with the story. I think that any breastfeeding baby, whether presently weaning or not, will enjoy looking at this book, simply showing a family's love and night/morning ritual. Un petit point négatif: le papa, présent sur les illustrations, n’est pas du tout mentionné dans le texte (ainsi que le chat 😉 ).On a larger level, it is my belief that the book helps lengthen breastfeeding terms because it gives an option to exhausted moms other than cold turkey full weaning. Everything about the book is thoughtful: the child is not gender-specific; the words are pitched perfectly for our nursling children. It's obviously a family affair, and the dad is clearly present on almost every page, but for some reason he's left out of the text. A la fin, l’auteure partage quelques trucs et astuces pour utiliser ce livre dans l’optique du sevrage nocturne. This is one of the few books that does exist in that gap, and it appears to have been self-published.
