About this deal

Where you have purchased the goods or services as a consumer (for private use as opposed to business use), please note that you are entitled to cancel any contract completed with us within 14 days of receipt of the goods or services. Eight episodes were not included due to the appearances of three celebrities convicted of sexual abuse offences under Operation Yewtree in the 2010s.

Along similar lines, a member of the public taking part was able to do Ask Aspel by pointing at the chairman, though nobody could remember the name of his other show at first. When performing the word "as", Eve Ferret even went as far as doing the "A" gesture then drawing out an "S" which seems very unsporting indeed. Being an upbeat show of a certain vintage, featuring “real” personalities, there are occasionally attitudes and language that reflect the time. While Aspel mostly left players to do their thing - and sometimes struggle on - Parky steps in to help more. There are a number of set gestures which can be used, such as book, television, film, but the rest are totally open to interpretation which leads to a large amount of hilarity as you can well imagine. Each character has her moment, with her own challenge to overcome, from the process of ageing and worries over children, to cheating spouses and turning to the bottle. What surprised me while rewatching the opening season is that each team of four (regular captain, plus three competitors) actually featured a member of the public alongside the celebrities. The eight episodes that are not in the collection had appearances of three celebrities with sexual abuse offences that were investigated in Operation Yewtree. I would guess that they always filmed 2 (or maybe even 3 episodes) on the same day so being able to film them back to back instead of having the change the cast midway though would have reduced costs.

The shows on this set feature a galaxy of celebrities, comedians and actors, including: Kenneth Williams, Diana Dors, Richard O’Sullivan, Barbara Windsor, Robin Askwith, David Jason, Yootha Joyce, Mollie Sugden, Paula Wilcox, Spike Milligan, Russ Abbot, Warren Mitchell, Kenny Everett, June Whitfield, Terry Scott, Dick Emery, Maureen Lipman, Beryl Reid, Rodney Bewes, Faith Brown, Paul Eddington, John Inman, Dudley Moore, Victoria Wood, all three Goodies and two Doctors Who! After that, there was the glorious theme tune of the Parky version, composed by Thames TV's Musical Director Alan Braden. So, you’ve got, say, an air steward and a marketing expert appearing with the likes of Faith Brown and Kenneth Williams. There was some redemption in Part Two with first-time player William Boyde nailing his performance of the appropriately-titled Shame And Scandal In The Family and winning Lionel's favour. The show is a simple game of charades played by two teams; One for the ‘boys’ and one for the ‘girls’.Incidentally, the Gascoine/Goddard/Sewell/Nedwell episode ended with the male member of the public on the panel - a fashion designer named Leslie Dean - being given The Poseidon Adventure, but giving a rather bizarre mime by pointing at himself, indicating it was two words and doing the “name” head touching thing.
