I love going on walks, and this was a solid book about the science of why different kinds of walks (walks through nature, walks after it rains, walks in the morning, in the evening, etc) are good for you! Walk slow, fast, at night, in the morning, after meals, alone, with a friend, in the rain, singing, meditating etc etc x 52.

So either this book needed another edit to not allow readers to misconstrue these chapters, or the readers are being lied to. Streets carefully breaks down the psychological and physical benefits of [walking], and makes a solid case that getting some movement in outside can help one “appreciate the exquisitely complicated and beautiful world we inhabit. If you're looking to start walking or change up your current walking routine, this book may be for you To me, it seems like half of the science is based on very small studies, so take that into account as you read. This book is about how walking is connected both to old wisdom and new scientific frontiers of discovery … If you’re not a habitual walker this book will give you good reasons why you should get started and, if you are experienced, ways to keep it fresh … Fascinating. It's light but it's also serious because walking is, after all, one of the first things we're praised for and something that's critical to our health and mental well being.My main critique is I felt the "tips" section of each chapter definitely felt like the weakest part, it felt like the part the author spent the least amount of time on.

What I got: a padded out listicle with 100 pages at the end of numerous studies and articles that do not indicate peer review or stats to prove their case.

Our vision, hearing, respiration, sleep, cognition, memory, blood pressure, sense of smell and balance are all enhanced by how we walk.

This is one I'm going to want to dip in and out of at will, which is much easier with an actual book. Do we need to be told to wrap up well in cold weather or to wear waterproofs or carry an umbrella in the rain?She incorporates moon phases, singing, drawing, walking backwards, walking alone, walking with a friend.
