Lighting: The best lighting condition for Yucca is usually partial shade. Allowing them to get some bright light each day without overwhelming them with hours of direct sunlight is best. Yuccas will often tolerate too much light, but may get stressed out and begin to turn yellow as a result. Because species of this genus do not take well at all to transplanting, only a few varieties, such as the bushy, spreading varieties, are available as plants in containers from a limited number of garden centres. Water and Soil: 1-2 waterings per week is usually sufficient for Nasturtiums. As long as you keep the soil at least somewhat damp, your little Nasturtium plant should be good to go. At some point, mature spider plants will produce delicate white flowers that only add to their unique aesthetic. Sow nasturtiums and start them off indoors: Plenty of varieties of nasturtiums can be started indoors from early spring for early flowering. Begin about a month before the last frost is due. If you know how to grow flowers from seeds, the basic principles for nasturtiums are much the same. Sow two or three seeds per 3in (8cm) pot at a depth of half an inch (1cm). Use a damp free-draining seed compost, water well and keep just moist. Seedlings emerge around 10 days after planting. Nasturtiums can get injured if you try moving them too soon, which is why it is best to use pots rather than trays.

Be mindful of heat when caring for the plants in your chameleon habitat. Some plants will die if kept too close to heat lamps, while others love to bake in the hot light. Arrange the plants in your tank accordingly. Limnanthes douglasii (poached egg plant): Spreading plant with finely divided leaves and bowl-shaped yellow flowers with white-tipped petals. Flowers June-September. HA, 15cm, widely available. Mesembryanthemum (Livingstone daisy) Sparkles Mixed Drought-tolerant annuals – Go for multiple colours Indeed, even a balanced fertiliser would not be a smart idea for Nasturtiums under most circumstances. Overwintering Calendula officinalis(pot marigold): The edible orange flowers are surprisingly tolerant of drought and cold, although do fall victim to powdery mildew. Can be HA, HB or HP, 50-100cm, widely available and self-seeds. Lighting: Wax Begonias insist on lots of bright light. They don’t mind heat, either, so feel free to arrange them somewhere near your sun lamp. The absolute number one killer of plants by usually well-intentioned people is overwatering. Plants need water. Too often, usually out of a fear of underwatering, we give our houseplants more water than they are able to use. This leads to a cascade of problems that can end with you throwing away a dead plant. Underwatering They are usually found growing in full sun; though their water needs are low they do best in moist soil. That’s why it’s best to throw the original soil away and repot the plants with organic soil (unless you’re certain the original soil is safe). Nasturtium relishes cooler temperatures (in the 70sºF or 20sºC) and often sulks in extremely dry or humid conditions. General Care Tips: Nasturtiums will climb if you give them something to latch onto. Small chameleons will likely enjoy traversing the vine-like stems of a healthy Nasturtium.

Lighting: Dracaena plants are sometimes touted as being shade tolerant. However, in practical application, you may find that “shade tolerant” is not the same as “shade loving.” Compactas can do well in areas where there is not an abundance of bright light, but they will begin to show signs of stress without enough UV light. Lighting: Most Ficus varieties do much better when they get at least some actual sunlight. If you can’t place your vivarium near a window, take your Ficus out and place it in a sunny window once in a while. Alonsoa: A shrubby Peruvian plant has normally red flowers but A. albiflora’s Ivory blooms have prominent yellow anthers. Nasturtiums make excellent companion plants for tomatoes and also some of the best companion plants for peppers as they help deter whitefly. This is one of the key pests for the Solanaceae (nightshade) family, so it can help if you want to know how to grow eggplant as well. The Boston fern prefers an all-purpose potting mix with peat moss. It should drain well while holding onto some water—these plants like moist soil at all times. This plant is very much of the climbing type; what’s more, it grows to about 3m and can even reach 4m. Tropaeolum, commonly called Nasturtium, is a genus of climbing, sometimes creeping, plants that have fantastic ornamental value in terms of their heights and spreads, foliage and flowers. The pinnately lobed leaves are of a rich green shade – and as for the small but outrageous blooms, they actually comprise of a pronounced calyx enclosing the flower.Another uncommon feature chameleons have? Their hands have opposable digits, giving them the ability to grip things in a very human-like way that you won’t see any other lizard doing. Eschscholzia californica (Californian poppy): Vigorous bushy plants with finely divided blue-green leaves and orange, yellow or red flowers to 7cm across. Flowers June-October, HA, 30cm, widely available, self-seeds. Tithonia rotundifolia (Mexican sunflower): Plants carry lots of 7.5cm daisy flowers in shades of gold, orange and yellow. Flowers July-until first frosts. HHA, 1.2m-2m, www.thompson-morgan.com. If you are looking for planting pals to bring out the best in your garden crops and fancies, few plants work harder than nasturtiums. Whether they are attracting pollinators, luring pests from precious veggies or boosting the flavors of neighbouring crops, nasturtiums are some of the best friends your gardening flora and fauna will ever find. So when it comes to companion planting, no garden is complete without them! Consider the following when deciding where to grow yours.
