First, the GH5 II now supports C4K 4:2:2 10-bit at up to 30p, where the GH5 stopped at 24p. It can also shoot C4K 4:2:0 10-bit at 60p, an option not available on the GH5. With the GH5 II you can now capture 4:2:0 10-bit 4K at up to 60p (only up to 30p on the GH5), and VFR (variable frame rate) modes from 2-60p have been added for C4K and Anamorphic modes. Speaking of Anamorphic, the GH5 II can capture Anamorphic 4K 4:2:0 10-bit at 50p (not available on the GH5).

PHOTO is a high speed burst shooting function that cuts a still image out of a 4:3 or 3:2 video footage with approx. 18-megapixel (approx. 6000 x 3000 effective pixel count) that the 6K image manages. This is a camera designed equally for stills and video, though in this latest version it’s the video capabilities that have received most attention. Nevertheless, with its 20MP sensor, fast burst mode and enhanced burst depth of over 108 raw files or more than 999 JPEGs, this is a camera that’s also very effective at stills and action photography.Another interesting omission is the decision not to include Raw output from the GH5 II. Panasonic says that stripping out all the processing that usually goes into the cameras footage means that you'd have to do a fair amount of work to the Raw footage, just to bring it up to the same standard, and that there'd be little to gain even if you did. The GH5 II will cost a few hundred more than the GH5, but arrives at a very similar price to the older camera when it was launched. We don't yet know if the GH5 will remain on sale, or for how long. (Image credit: Panasonic) The GH5 II's multi-pattern metering proved hard to fault in our tests, and the i.Dynamic option for in-camera JPEGs has kept the shadows light here while holding on to the bright sky beyond. As in previous instances, Panasonic is using the 'Mark II' nomenclature to indicate that this is a refreshed version of the GH5, not a completely new camera in the same range. The company believes that not everyone will need the added capabilities of the more expensive GH6, and that an updated GH5 will continue to make sense for some users.I mean, this entire conversation was literally me just saying that you should compare M43 lenses to equivalent lenses if you want to brag about size and people getting huffy. What has changed is the way the battery is charged. It can now be done internally, with the GH5 II’s USB-C port able to carry a constant power supply to the camera or recharge the battery. That’s a big quality-of-life improvement over the original GH5, which required external charging. Image quality In some respects its closest rival is its full-frame cousin, the Lumix DC-S5. It doesn't offer the GH5 II's full range of video tools, nor its full-width oversampled 60p capture, but it still includes a lot of similar know-how for a fairly similar amount of money, with the low-light and shallow depth-of-field capabilities it's hard for the GH5 II to match.
