I read it a couple months ago but I can still pull details from the novel and it makes me want to sigh really loudly and book an appointment with my therapist that I no longer have. How to Fall Out of Love Madly fearlessly explores three women's shifting desires and the systems that do--and do not--constrain them. I have been seeing a ton of people saying that if you like Sally Rooney's style of writing then you will like this one. Very fatphobic for the sake of being relatable but I could not relate to these image-obsessed women who are very pathetic toward men, I felt like they were in high school and not in their 30's.

Soon, however, Theo brings in Celine, the gorgeous girlfriend he's neglected to mention, and jealous Joy fails to recognize Celine's own deep pain. Unfortunately, the resolution feels incomplete as the characters indulge in self-pity instead of owning power. The narrator, soon established as Elliot Chase, then zooms out to address the reader directly, introducing the players—most importantly movie star Lana Farrar. She wouldn’t know much more than that; she wouldn’t know that even though she’d told herself for ages that she didn’t mind being single and that she didn’t want children anyway and that turning thirty very soon meant nothing, somewhere it terrified her that at this age she’d never been in love with anyone and that no one loved her, no one at all, and coming off of this state, not too much later, she would meet Theo. The ones who decide that they’ve had enough of the men around them getting away with inappropriate touches or comments.

Then Theo brings home Celine, the girlfriend he’s never mentioned, who is possibly the most stunning woman Joy has ever seen. I would have liked more about friendship, more about finding yourself, it seems like we have just scratched the surface here and there was a lot more we could have dived into.

Four men who meet as college roommates move to New York and spend the next three decades gaining renown in their professions—as an architect, painter, actor and lawyer—and struggling with demons in their intertwined personal lives. The novel starts off with a murder, and with seven people trapped on an isolated Greek island lashed by a "wild, unpredictable Greek wind. When he told her this she didn’t cry, but when she got home she cried a lot, and it made her wonder what was it that was making her feel this devastated if it wasn’t love and the best she could come up with was that it was loneliness and the second best she could come up with was disappointment and the third, rejection. I think if you like the introspectiveness of Sally Rooney and the mundane pace of Bryan Washington - you will enjoy Jana Casale. The other thing that didn't really work for me was Celine, the third character, who has a lot less time on the page and whose whole purpose is supposed to be to show us that a woman who looks Instagram-perfect can also not be happy.
