About this deal

The keys feel very nice and the sounds and speaker system are the best that have ever come out with the Casiotone name. As such, if you’re someone who prioritises both sound and playability, this is pretty much the perfect beginners’ keyboard, and also one that more seasoned players might consider if they’re looking for something super-portable that they can take anywhere (though the lack of 1/4-inch L/R audio outputs might irritate you if you want to hook up to a PA). Like many of our Privia and Celviano digital pianos, the CT-S1's streamlined design features simplified controls that allow you to focus on selecting a Tone and practicing or performing without distraction.

Other MIDI-enabled apps and external devices ensure there are no limitations on experimentation as you keep exploring new and fun ways to listen, adapt and create musical experiences.Even if the external 88 keys are connected via MIDI via a PC, it works without any problems, so I thought it good to be able to play beyond the 61 keys. It pretty much nails the in-your-face saw wave with a very nice Oberheim sound (Jump, its the classic Jump sound). I also practice ear training on the CS-S1, doing certain kinds of music theory exercises on it, such as sequences of 2 to 4 chords, and spontaneously harmonizing a given melodic snippet, or inventing a melodic snippet to go with a short chord sequence. We’ve analyzed the sound and structure of vintage musical instruments used in hit songs from the past to the present, and brought them to life using our unique technology. The Advanced sounds are especially fun to play with (piano and strings, drawbar organ, etc) and sound FAR better than I'd ever expect from an inexpensive practice keyboard.

But from all the reviews I’ve seen so far, the key action of the S1 and the quality of the tones and surround features seem to surprise and impress much more. There’s little or no evidence of distortion; in fact, if you connect up a smartphone (either via the audio input or Bluetooth adapter) they’re good enough to be used for music listening, too. Likely of most interest to serious musicians is the flagship CT-S1 (pictured above), which features Casio's premium AiX Sound Source engine, allowing it to “faithfully reproduce the appealing sound of acoustic instruments such as guitars, drums, basses, brass, wind instruments, string ensembles and more”.Effortless combining practicality and spectacular sound, start your keyboard journey right with Casio's innovative keyboard!

Available from Thomann in 10-12 weeks, I'm interested in the CT-S1 but the gushing reviews so far on youtube are not enough to go on, as a portable practice keyboard with decent tones onboard it's an interesting option. nbsp;
