About this deal

That night, as I left my clinic in my usual chronic state of anxiety, I wondered if life was worth living. O lado negativo é que o autor exagera na repetição e nas referências pessoais, tornando o texto desnecessariamente longo e cansativo em algumas passagens. Dr Russell Kennedy is a medical doctor, neuroscientist, and someone who suffered with crippling anxiety for over 30 years. The key word in this book is : REPETITIVE ( yes , capital letters ) , every chapter tells the same story of the previous chapter , did I also mention that he frequently talks about how he used LSD?It took me years of struggling through painful, debilitating worrying before I finally unlocked new, non-traditional methods to ease and heal my pain.

The author’s high regard of his ‘own’ knowledge can be recognised by the fact he keeps on repeating himself, eventhough he seems to be aware of speaking nonsense sometimes. I hadn't heard of either person, but was hooked by the description: "Everything you think about anxiety is wrong. I'm on pg 140 and have to stop as way to repetitive and extremely slow in making the same points over and over. For me, the takeaway is a complete paradigm shift: my anxiety is not something to get rid of, just the concern of my younger self(ves) to be attended to.I was still being triggered daily but without the regression and need to remove myself from the situation.

Also, I couldn't get past his endless reference to LSD (and other mind altering drugs) as the key to his personal anxiety cure. It’s not short term hacks it’s a compassionate understanding of self with real approaches to manage. For Russell, healing starts by finding out where anxiety lives inside your body and during our conversation, Russell walks you through how exactly you can start doing that. Readers learn how to sever the connection between the somatic alarm and the flood of anxious thoughts – in the process they begin to heal old trauma and gain a sense of control previously unknown. BUT, luckily I didn’t quit 1) because I never let myself quit on a book holding out hope that it gets better and 2) because the best part of this book comes in the last 36 chapters. The concept had potential, and I was intrigued by the lack of citing studies, etc because at first, it read like having coffee with a knowledgeable friend sharing their own personal experiences in their journey with anxiety.
