Excellent depiction of biomechanics for senior mechanical improvement…well-reasoned plan for balance improvement…easy read…makes sense…great pre-rehab guide to resolve common problem. The postures and exercises – which do not have to be memorized and can be done at home - emphasize simple positions and small movements that are appropriate for those who have mobile impairments, including several exercises that acknowledge the common elderly struggle to sit down and stand up. After being faced with serious illness and the realisation she wouldn’t ski at her top level again she had to make a drastic lifestyle change.

I thought that the photographic demonstration of the exercises was a wonderful touch, one which endears the author to us and also helps add clarity to the work. Rachel shares illustrated gripping stories of being out in the mountains, being stalked by a mountain lion, sleeping in the snow in -20 degrees, dodging an avalanche by split seconds and having to keep her cool when being rescued after an injury when skiing miles from anywhere.The book discusses the physics and biomechanics of balance and details the importance of the postural muscles (those that involuntarily control balance and stability). The exercises look very achievable whatever your current abilities may be, and I certainly think it is an excellent book for groups to learn from together.
