I read this over a few long nights with my 4 month old and it felt like she was writing my innermost thoughts that I didn't dare to say aloud. Taylor was discovered on ITV series Show Me the Funny, an X Factor-style contest for aspiring stand-up comedians. And her voice was so clear throughout the book, never getting lost to ‘I am writing a book I must sound formal and knowledgeable’. During the intro of her book, Ellie Taylor acknowledges are privileges as a White, Cis woman in a marriage with a Cis man, and later she also acknowledges her privilege when it comes to aspects such as ease of conception and maternal mortality rates (but more on that aspect of the book later. For my husband and l, our job is to work and pay bills, and for Ratbag, her job is to go to nursery and bloody well do Baby Shark.

Taylor has also been a guest on 8 Out of 10 Cats, Pointless Celebrities, Insert Name Here, QI, The Last Leg, Big Brother's Bit on the Side, and Show Me the Funny. Ellie has gone from entering the ITV comic talent contest Show Me The Funny with no prior standup experience, to being a regular on Mock the Week and Late Night Mash. Her little face when I would come and collect her was a snapshot of anguish as if I’d left her with a pack of hyenas as opposed to some nice ladies with childcare qualifications and exceptional Goosey Goosey Gander skills. That said, she also successfully manages to ensure that the writing feels easy to connect to and is consistently humorous, and therefore, not a difficult read. She is insistent that they visit her should they ever come to Denver, but inveigles herself into their lives instead. I've been wanting to get into reading again for a few years now but been struggling to find a book I'd enjoy.

Becoming a first time mum during lockdown was a lonely experience, I'm sorry I didn't have this book then, but I'm so glad to have it now. Taylor’s book is naturally predominately lead by her own experiences of pregnancy, childbirth (in this case via C-section) and being a mother, however, she does also pull anecdotes from other mothers and parents that have been part of her life and these add further depth (and occasionally some comedy) to the narrative. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Even if you don’t relate to specific stories and scenarios Ellie Taylor and her partner faced in becoming parents, I think every parent can relate to the feelings and emotions poured into the pages of this book as you laugh and sob your way through it. Will be interesting to see if she does have another baby or another book - would like to hear more about how she manages the toddler phase. The backdrop to his time in office included the advent of ISIS, surging migration and a rapidly changing EU.

This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. In December 2019, it was announced that Taylor would step down from her Heart FM show to focus on her TV commitments. There is a brutality about some of what is written in this book, they are thoughts that most parents would never admit to having (even though they most likely do on a regular basis). I’ve written the book that didn’t exist when I was pregnant: a very honest account of the whole thing, from trying to get pregnant right through to having a toddler,’ Ellie says. The place is colourful and chaotic, full of lefty parents keen to sign permission slips for their child to partake in activities like yoga and Mandarin classes. I hope you realise the strength and impact of your talent to be able to simultaneously make someone laugh and fill their soul when they didn't think it was possible.

Prompted by his retirement from his full-time job in the NHS, and through his continuing work in Nepal and Ukraine, Henry has been forced to reflect more deeply about what 40 years spent handling the human brain has taught him. I love that she’s not afraid to talk about the harder things with pregnancy and new borns, and I wish I’d read this book before I’d had my child, it’s the most useful book on parenting I’ve read!My Child and Other Mistakes is the honest lowdown on Motherhood and all its grisly delights, asking the questions no one wants to admit to asking themselves – do I want a child?
