One of the more popular methods for encouraging flowering in your wisteria is to drive a shovel 8 to 10-inches into the ground, at a distance of a foot from the trunk of the vine. Now that you know your current shade, you might need to make some adjustments to make sure you achieve the results you want from your new hair colour. This will slow the flow of sap down and encourage more flower buds. If you allow your wisteria to go straight up forever you’ll get a few flowers at the very top. You can also coil new leaders round a support - again to slow up the flow of sap - before training them horizontally. This is a good technique on a strong pergola. Pruning wisteria

The lighter your current shade, the brighter our hair colour will shine. At this range, your hair will be more welcoming of a broader selection of colours. The secret to good flowering is pruning your wisteria. Wisteria only produces flowers on new canes, so it’s best to remove all of the old ones at the end of the growing season in the late fall. Some gardeners in warmer states can start pruning as late as the mid-winter.

Where to plant

If you’re going to give your Wisteria a hard prune, winter is the time to do it. You can get a head start in the summer but only with more recent growth. For any branches over an inch in diameter, wait for winter. You can form this structure either with a new Wisteria as it grows or on an older, overgrown Wisteria that you want to bring under control. Regular pruning maintains the basic structure by adjusting the height of the leader, the number of laterals, the length of the laterals, and the number and length of tertiary shoots. Get off at Khatib MRT Station (NS14) to access Wisteria Mall. Bring all your stuff before the doors close.

Plant in full sun. Though wisteria will grow in partial shade, it probably won’t flower. Sunlight isessential. Bone meal is also another nutrient you can add to the soil in the early spring to induce flowering. We prefer using granulated fertilizer over water-mixed fertilizer for our wisteria. The granules provide a slow-release into the soil that won’t damage or burn the plant.Make sure you avoid planting next to structures unless you want the wisteria to grow into it and cause you problems. However, there are times when planting next to structures that could benefit your garden. Planting the wisteria at the base of a pergola is a fantastic idea. The vines grow in and around the pergola, and when the vines flower, it makes the structure look beautiful as the flowers leap to life and cover the structure.

To know where to prune Wisteria, we need to understand how it grows. One or a few shoots will grow more or less vertically. Side shoots will grow out from these, and more side shoots (called tertiary shoots) will, in turn, grow out from the side shoots. Some of the tertiary shoots will be flower spurs. If there are a lot of side shoots growing off of the leader, remove some so that the plant will focus on growing the leader. Leave and train the side shoots that you want to become your lateral branches.Wisterias are legumes, as you can see from the pea-like flowers, and there are ten species found China, Japan and the Eastern USA. In the wild they are often found close to streams, near wet woodlands and close to damp cliffs. The differences between Chinese and Japanese wisterias Its beautiful spring-blooming cascade of purple, or white, fragrant flowers is best viewed when trained on a support, such as a sturdy pergola,’ says Kirsten Coffen. If your pets or children consume the seeds or the flowers, rush them to the emergency room and call the poison control hotline for advice while you’re driving to the hospital. Is Wisteria Invasive? If possible, maintenance pruning should be done just above a healthy leaf bud, leaving a few inches of new growth. Dead branches should be cut off entirely at a node.
