But sadly, Out of the Blue was a massive disappointment for me, and I had to struggle to finish its last part. Like, I adored both Crest/Ross and Sean as characters, but their motivations and understanding around their relationship were very hard to follow in moments. One moment they were friends with benefits, the next they were fully in love, then very torn up over whether or not they were manipulating each other, then broken up, then in love, then maybe broken up again? Phew. But nonetheless, I was really invested the entire book in their relationship, and I really enjoyed all the classic fake dating notes. There were also a lot of elements about it that read true to teen relationships and how wildly messy they can be. It was also super sex-positive and there seemed to be roughly zero straight characters, which was great. It’s hard to imagine that there is much appetite for knowing more about Truss. Even her most ardent supporters could probably do with knowing a little less. But here it is, nonetheless, a 300-leaved lettuce that was past its sell-by date before it reached the shelves. Truss maintains she is interested in outcome, not process. It was just too wonderful , too well-written. I definitely recommend it to anyone, it's just a beautiful, beautiful journey!! Of course I changed my mind immediately when the angel in the book wasn't able to communicate with the humans and was treated more like a pet than a person, but at the time I chose to read this book that seemed like an innovative and interesting idea.

Do know that you have to prepare for cheating if you decide to read this book. However, I felt the author wrote this into the book quite well, so while I disliked it, I didn’t hate it.
