About this deal

Another commemorative product for this week's round-up, premium gin brand Whitley Neill has launched a limited-edition bottle of its Connoisseur's Cut London Dry Gin ahead of the coronation of King Charles III.

In 2014, Whitley Neill won a gold medal at the San Francisco Spirits Competition 2014 and was referenced in The Telegraph Online as one of the five best gins to buy. [6] Awards [ edit ] As well as marking this historic day in history, the coronation of King Charles III also marks a new era for this Scotch whisky brand, as it was first created as a gift for Queen Elizabeth II for her coronation in 1953. It is said King Charles likes a Martini every night before dinner, however his exact preference for how it is served is unknown. We might assume, however, that he might opt for a gin he has an affinity with, such as Hepple Gin. In 2018, Hepple welcomed King Charles III to its estate in Northumbria where he planted his own juniper tree. The recipe is a combination of flavours of orange and currants with the warming spices of cinnamon, ginger, allspice, rosemary, coriander, and angelica. The resulting juniper-led gin is said to have a fruity and robust finish.

The team at the artisan spirit producer in Stratford-upon-Avon has crafted a completely new dry gin that has taken inspiration from the gin and dubonnet beloved by the late Queen and Queen Mother. Salford’s Four Sis4ers Distillery has launched a limited edition fruit-waste strawberry gin to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III, called Wonky Windsor. This pink gin is made with the fruits of ‘wonky’ British strawberries. It has been distilled in the distillery’s Arnold Holstein copper still, and inspired by King Charles’ love of the environment and passion for sustainability. London-based Meantime Brewing Company has teamed up with Record Store Day UK (RSDUK) to create Double Groove (4.7% ABV).

The Royal Pie comprises roasted wild mushroom, spinach and butternut squash with wild mushroom sauce, and features a special hand crafted royal crest on its puff pastry lid. Many craft gins seek to differentiate themselves, then, with a focus on some kind of terroir—gins that seek to capture a specific location or show off that area’s native botanicals. English gin Whitley Neill is one such example, but their inspiration isn’t the English countryside one might expect. Rather, their gin is based on the botanicals and flora of South Africa. To simply quote the marketing materials: With its rich London heritage and quality London Dry gin distilling credentials, Whitley Neill is perfectly positioned to help maximise this opportunity with the launch of this striking Limited Edition Coronation Gin offering. Connoisseur’s Cut has a 47% ABV, with notes of juniper and citrus. It is made at The City of London Distillery’s Elizabeth still, named for the late Queen to mark her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. Boasting a new recipe, crafted specifically to celebrate the historical occasion, Silent Pool’s Coronation Gin has been made using infusions of King Charles’ favourite Surrey botanicals, plants and flowers, with gentle notes of bergamot orange, complemented by elegant floral notes from rose petals, lavender and chamomile.

Note: We were provided with samples of the full Whitley Neill line of flavored gins, but I decided not to review these products, as their overwhelmingly sweet and fruity natures are outside my own personal interest. For this review, I’m confining myself solely to the Original. Davitt, Dermot (27 November 2018). "Interview: Whitley Neill gin takes UK market surge into travel retail". The Moodie Davitt Report . Retrieved 3 February 2019. This is our third year as official beer partner to RSD UK and this beer symbolises the important relationship between the US and UK, both musically and in beer.” Double Groove features 50% US & 50% UK varieties, bringing together complementary flavours to create a distinct and unique beer.

To mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, the City of London unveiled a new still called Elizabeth after the late Queen. It is on this still that all Whitley Neill’s London Dry gins are made, including this special release. Four Sis4ers Distillery director Hayley Robinson said: “King Charles is passionate about the environment, and we are passionate about sustainability – so we thought it would be a great idea to use fruit food waste for this latest gin, to repurpose the strawberries into something special to mark such an iconic occasion. This English whisky was created using Plumage Archer barley grown on the Highgrove Estate in Gloucestershire, England, and was distilled, matured, and bottled exclusively by the Cotswolds Distillery. Inspired by gin-making principles, First Light boasts flavours of dry juniper, citrus and ginger while the brand’s Midnight Sun serve offers notes of coastal berries, fresh pine and kelp.
