About this deal

The childhoods of most mass murderers are always scrutinized for such explanation, and they usually provide grim reading. Some diabolical permutation of abuse, neglect, abandonment, and unresolved injury or illness almost always seems to provide the wiring for the detonations to come. One can ask, “Who made you this way?,” and the answer will often point to a specific person. (That specific person was likely “made that way” by someone else.) With Dahmer, there’s no answer—and this, too, is key to the unending fascination with him. Ryan Murphy's Controversial 'Monster' Series Is Getting Two More Seasons". Them. November 7, 2022. Also, the cinematography and music was impressive. The writing and screenplay was decent too, especially the fact that they didn't did much creative liberties, and hence as a result, the story turned out to be close to the actual events. The only thing i found slightly disappointing was the length. The pace was a bit slow, especially in the last few episodes, and i feel the series could've been easily wrapped up in 8 episodes, instead of 10. The sustained, decades-long interest in Jeffrey Dahmer, of course, is mostly and simply due to the ghastly nature of his crimes, which included necrophilia, cannibalism, and horrendous cranial experiments performed on his unconscious victims. A significant share of the social-media response to “Dahmer” has been condemnatory, with relatives of victims speaking to what they see, understandably, as the inherently exploitative nature of the project. It’s quite possible that “Dahmer”—despite brilliant performances from Nash, Peters, and the great Richard Jenkins as Dahmer’s father, Lionel—has no real justification for its own existence. If it does, it might lie in the stubborn but elusive promise underlying most true crime: that the perpetrator and his acts can be, to some extent, “explained.”Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story". But legal ramifications are one thing, and morality quite another. So are we drifting into dangerous territory with the explosion of these real-life dramas? And ethically, are the makers of them going too far – or rather, not far enough? It definitely feels like we've reached a point where conversations – about representation, consent, and the sheer necessity of recreating certain traumatic events as dramatic entertainment – are coming to a head. Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story [b] is the first season of the American true crime anthology series, Monster, created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for Netflix, which was released on September 21, 2022. Murphy also serves as showrunner and is an executive producer along with Brennan. Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer, known as the Milwaukee Cannibal or the Milwaukee Monster, was a notorious American serial killer and sex offender who murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys from 1978-1991, many of them people of color and some underage.

Retrieved November 6, 2022. Without doubt, the conversation around it lends itself to a wider discussion about the whole nature of what we watch, or should watch, when it comes to true-crime drama and beyond. First of all, it raises the question of focus: is giving a serial killer a narrative platform in itself an act of mythologising and glorification? That has been an increasing feeling within the cultural ether, as a range of works, from books to documentary and docudrama series and films, have made a concerted effort to instead refocus narratives away from notorious murderers and onto their targets. By the same token, in citing evidence for the corruptive consequences of serial killer-centred narratives, some have pointed to the Dahmer-related Tik Toks that have sprung up in the show's wake, in which users have apparently expressed sorrow or sympathy for Dahmer or created "romantic" edits of scenes with him.Nordyke, Kimberly (January 15, 2023). "Critics Choice Awards: Full List of Winners". The Hollywood Reporter. Archived from the original on January 16, 2023 . Retrieved January 16, 2023. It is so curious to see through the internet the assertive cries of people who cannot understand why this series was made. The morbid fascination with serial killers and true crime in general isn't anything new. Be it pure fiction or based on true events, particularly here, it's the bellows of people who think Dahmer is being glorified and the victims' families are being lacerated by the sheer existence of this series, and we need to wait for the Ed Gein era for Dahmer where no one who was alive would give a damn and his entire profile becomes public domain folklore.
