Knowing the Father-heart of God is a source of great peace and great power in your walk as a believer. The devil will try to convince you of all sorts of rubbish; that God doesn’t care at times; that your sins are too great to be forgiven; that God doesn’t love you… When I realized that God sees me as His daughter it totally changed the way I related to Him. It’s hard to have a deep relationship with Him if you don’t see yourself as a daughter/son. Living in sonship is so powerful! I would've liked the discussion questions at the end of the book to be immediately following each chapter. I didn't even notice them, until we had read the whole book and it was too late to benefit from the guided interaction that I'm sure would've enhanced our interaction with the material.

When I read the book aloud to my husband, we found it to be a bit dry in spots. I would've liked to see more real-life examples, as these often help readers grasp what an author is trying to tell them. Nevertheless, there were some "ah-hah" moments and parts we re-read. I especially found Mr. McClung's chapter on the "Saul Syndrome" relevant and intriguing. Hungry and desperate, the son decides to come home. He knows he’s sinned and doesn’t expect to be restored to his family, but is content to live as one of his father’s servants. In addition to the core curriculum this program offers special break-out sessions for pastors and leaders who want to grow in shepherding well in these last days, giving “meat in due season” (Matthew 24:45). Father, come and invade my heart with Your loving Presence. Heal my hurts; cast out my anxious thoughts. Let Your peace reign over all my life. Fill me afresh with Your wonderful Spirit so that I might live each day knowing the Father whose heart is always towards me. Amen.Growing up, when I thought about God and Jesus, I always thought that Jesus was the nice one and God as being distant and angry. When I prayed as a child and young adult, I would talk to Jesus, but not to God the Father. I thought he was disappointed with me, cold, and judgemental.

This book is part of the core curriculum, so-to-speak, of Youth With A Mission. It talks about how the Lord relates to us as a loving Father and how our relationship with our own dads and other authority figures can inhibit our ability to respond to Him as such. There is an ache in God’s heart for every one of His children to return to Him—even those who are lost and sinning—as we will see in the third parable. The Lost Son

As you grow spiritually, God’s desire is that you increasingly know Him as Father and His Father-heart in your life each day. Somehow, I received the message that God was upset with humans and Jesus protected us from his anger. When I eventually learned to see God as a kind and loving father, my entire walk with the Lord changed.
