About this deal

The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage. The PurColour system is only possible because the UE55HU8500 employs a Quad Core Plus 1.8GHz processing engine that’s by far the most powerful processor Samsung has ever used. Colour Space] “ Custom” is Samsung’s excellent RGB-based colour management system (CMS) which fortunately uses the more accurate “ Auto” gamut as its starting point. After some tweaking, we obtained a first-rate result: Information about whether the stand can be dismounted. Usually, this is required for wall mounting.

Its panel is a VA type, raising hopes of decent contrast but, predictably, meaning that you’ll see colours and contrast start to reduce if you have to watch the screen from much of an angle from the side. That’s a positive, though. At a touch over 25mm deep for our 55-inch version, the chassis is enviably slim, and the bezels surrounding the screen are minimal too. It can be wall-mounted, of course. If you don’t fancy that option, though, and would rather stand your new TV on a surface, the Samsung’s feet are usefully close together, so your surface needn’t be as wide as the screen itself. We’ve come to expect better than average from Samsung at this level of the market, though, and with the appearance now of one or two strong rivals, it’s going to have to work a little harder next time out. Percentage luminance drop at 20 degree vertical angle from the centre of the screen with 100% white output And those Smart features are enormous in scope, encompassing gazillions of VoD and streaming services, a fabulous media player, a content recommendation engine and a new batch of games that utilise the new handset. There’s plenty more besides that, too, and the HU8500 also boasts a built-in camera for Skype video calls, as well as a new Football Mode designed to maximise the stadium experience for the home viewer. Alas that’s a bit of a missed step as the picture is unbelievably poor but there’s little else to fault the Smart TV system on.Accessibility (Enlarge / High Contrast / Multi-output Audio / Color Inversion / Grayscale / Sign Language Zoom / Slow Button Repeat) Information about the number of pixels on the horizontal and vertical side of the screen. A higher resolution allows the display of a more detailed and of higher quality image. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality.

On the plus side, the BU8500 does support 4K at 50Hz, along with HDR10, HDR10+ and HGiG. It also includes ALLM (automatic low latency mode), which detects a console and selects the Game mode, and as with most Samsung TVs, this produces an incredibly low input lag of 10ms. Note: Our review was conducted with the 55HU8500’s firmware updated to version 1100, the latest at time of publication. Europe’s HU8500 series is equivalent to the Samsung HU9000 in North America. Design Either the 55-inch panel is less laggy than the 65” or Samsung has released a firmware update in the intervening period between now and our review of it. By editing the name of an HDMI input to PC, using the Tools button the remote, input lag comes down to a fairly manageable 44.6 milliseconds, from a figure unspeakably large, without doing so. It’s good news, in a way, as it means you can retain the Movie picture mode and there’s no need to dig out the dedicated Game mode in the Setup menu but it’s probably not something the average owner will ever think of doing. Relatively dark HDR content on the BU8000 also reveals a slightly compressed, unrefined look to low-brightness, densely detailed picture areas, such as the hedges and flower beds outside Georgie’s house in the opening scene of It on 4K Blu-ray. The BU8500 also pays the price for its missing Quantum Dot colour system by delivering a colour palette which, while fairly wide-ranging and decently subtle, ultimately feels a little desaturated versus the vibrancy of the TCL. Admittedly the TCL sometimes pushes its colours a little too much, but overall its extra vividness is more engaging than the Samsung’s rather pallid look.Critically for upscaling non-4K sources, a process called automatic resolution recovery is featured. This enables the screen to detect a source's original resolution (eg standard def footage that's been upscaled by a broadcaster), implement noise reduction and enhance detail, before finally upscaling to 4K. The natural curve is optimised for the viewing distance in your living room, which means that it provides a wider field of view and more natural viewing angles, drawing you into whatever's happening on screen. The Samsung BU8500 is a 4K (3,840 x 2,160) HDR smart TV that comes in screen sizes ranging from 43in to 75in. It’s part of Samsung’s entry-level 2022 Crystal UHD range, which sits below its selection of QLED and Neo QLED TVs. Like the rest of the Crystal UHD range, the BU8500 is powered by the South Korean manufacturer’s Crystal 4K Processor. Max light output HDR (high dynamic range) while displaying small white square taking up 60% of the screen (measured in Nits)
