About this deal

and as far as the sentiments go, even though SOME OF US have become cynical monsters ground down by _______ (noun) and, _______ (recent atrocity), and the _______ (adjective) state of the world, it’s good to be reminded of certain truths, even if they’re a little trite.

I'll confess that I haven't read much of the comic that Andres J. Colmenares is famous for – Wawawiwa Comics – though I have seen it around (all over the place, really). So I didn't have a whole lot of expectations going into this. Yet I was still blown away, having a blast and a half reading it. The artwork is beautiful, colorful and adorable. It makes me just want to hug these characters and plaster my walls with the prints!Colmenares' illustrations are adorable. I particularly love the deliberate soft round shapes of the Great White and the Whale shark. So cute! This is a book about kindness, relationships, and love, and since these are such deep subjects, I’ve made it underwater. I would highly recommend this collection. The artwork is cute and colorful and the comic touches on topics that many can relate to. This graphic novel will brighten your day. I also think it would make a great gift to someone who needs a smile. Readers will also enjoy a playlist of songs to accompany this book by scanning a QR code. I read it via the Netgalley app so I wasn't able to, but I am curious as to what's on there!

My favourite comics were p.10, because… coffee; p. 15, because art is the eye of the beholder; p.68, because awwww and p.82,83 because… Batman!

Table of Contents

This book is about animals in the sea (oh and a human who at times pops up on the surface). Mostly we see a shark going through the daily things. Going to work with a fish tie and he becomes the best of friends with him (yes really). Not sure if it is the same shark, but we also see a shark with a little shark, celebrating birthdays and trying to build things (though I would recommend real hammers not hammersharks). But we also meet other animals, from fish who have those little lights in front of them switch from normal lights to Christmas mode, or the narwhal who wants to make a selfie and lets a friend hang a camera on his nose/horn. There is plenty to see and plenty to laugh. This is a collection of comics about a shark and the various underwater creatures that are his friends. Sharks may be feared but the sharks in this collection show their insecurities and awkwardness. You also get to know many of the friends of the sharks such as narwhal, penguins, clownfish, whales, catfish, electric eels and angler fishe. There is no overarching story – each comic is standalone. it's the same *kind* of book as The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse, but it's cuter and funnier, so i didn't feel as emotionally grubby at the end of this one.
