About this deal

If you’re a hobbyist, then this set of terrain kits is going to be the bane of your wallet. “I just need one more kit and I can do [fill in the blank]” is going to be your biggest problem. I’m not going to lie, if you were a “Lego Kid” you should probably run from these kits. Otherwise you’re going to want to keep purchasing them and eventually you’re going to drown in plastic. It happens. It’s not pretty…But it’s pretty awesome to dive in and just build and let your creativeness take over.

If you're a fan of Warhammer 40K, then you know that the best way to experience the game is through immersive tabletop battles. The best way to build up this immersion and create epic fights is with tabletop terrain, and that is where Warhammer 40K Battlezones come in. They are designed to be small sets of terrain that come with unique rules to create a more immersive and epic feel to your battles. The Warhammer 40K Battlezone terrain sets can be used alongside other terrain and accessories to create even more epic battlefields. How to Choose the Best Warhammer 40K Battlezone Set Lastly for the House of Shadow, gang reinforcements are here in the form of the Nacht-Ghul, Psy-Gheists, and Piscean Spektor set, which comes with added Psychoteric Wyrms. *** These new Champions, Prospects, and Exotic Beasts bring crafty close combat and psychic abilities to the tabletop, as well as a fair amount of flying muscle in the form of the Piscean Spektor – which is pretty beefy for a floating brain. Howdy scummers! As we prepare for the upcoming release of Necromunda: Ash Wastes, this seemed like a phenomenal time to hit up the Goonhammer contributors for their preferred methods for painting up Sector Mechanicus kits. SM seems like a solid way to “fill” up an Ash Wastes table, in a spirit similar to the terrain previewed for the next box! We just want to encourage you to paint up all the terrain you’ve been hoarding. Sector Mechanicus Terrain Battlezone: Mechanicus – Charadon comes with everything you need to fight battles in the Charadon Sector. This is a forge world in a box, comprising two double-sided gaming boards measuring 30” x 22.4”, plus a whopping 13 pieces of highly detailed plastic terrain. This set is perfect for Combat Patrol- and Incursion-sized missions and a great way to begin your collection. Use a BIG brush to stipple inconsistent patches of a mid-brown over the primer spray. You want to be as messy and inconsistent as possible, with some patches of brown being fairly solid, and others being pretty much just a drybrush. Pretty much any mid brown will be fine for this, although going as dark as Citadel Rhinox Hide would probably be fine. Personally I was using the big ol’ keg of Calthan Brown that came in the old Citadel Scenery Painting set. If you’re not sure about the brown you’re using, just do a small bit of scenery to completion and see how it all sits together.

Dataslates and Datacards

Yellow traditionally needs a few layers, and these things are large. Given the slightly rusty and oily look of the metal, I didn’t want the panels to look too pristine, which they would do with just a flat coat of paint.

Most of the material I use is intentionally inexpensive and designed for large applications. This process would work very well for batch painting, and that actually might be beneficial if you want everything to look consistent. Using custom mixed oil washes and sponging parts can lead to slight variations in tone and appearance depending on how consistent you are between batches, but to be honest it’s not that big of a deal and things aren’t supposed to look perfect anyway. Ingredients Whether you're a veteran of the franchise or a newcomer, these Battlezone sets offer hours of fun and excitement. Each set comes with everything you need to start building your own battlefield, with the sets coming unpainted you can make them your own with your own color combinations and unique style. So, I know these jamokes up there think their method is easy, but…. they’re using multiple steps and dry brushes and highlights…. All I’m saying is that my method has about 10 less steps than either of theirs. One key step to prepare the Sector Mechanicus terrain for paint is applying some Vallejo Oxide Paste to areas that you want heavier rust and grime. Credit: 40khamslam

Ray: I’ve always considered Imperial statuary to be more oppressive than inspirational, reminding the citizenry of their duty, and that they’re being watched. However, this statue of Celestine is genuinely intended to be a symbol of hope. This is why the torch she carries is more prominent than the sword – she represents a light in the darkness.

From here is the detail work. I use acrylic inks over the raised details on top and inside the barriers to add some visual interest and serve as the underlayer for anywhere I want hazard stripes. I then custom printed hazard stripes on decal paper and cut them to size since I’m lazy and didn’t feel like masking and airbrushing everything. They’ll go right on top of the ink and with some Micro Set will soften and conform to the part. You may need to use a knife to poke holes where the plastic overlaps a rivet hole. After the ink dries a layer of sepia wash tones things downs and blends it all in. For the mechanical bits in the pillars I applied some Dirty Down Verdigris and then applied some sepia wash to blend it in. That leaves us with just one step left: Weathering. This is another spot I don’t want to spend a ton of time, so I take an old flared out brush or a piece of sponge and just dapple Typhus Corrosion all over the surface to give it lots of grime spots and dirt. I’ll smudge a few as well. Drybrush a dark metallic over the whole thing. I used Army Painter gunmetal, but I’m sure Citadel Leadbelcher would be fine too.

Mission actions are specific to the mission you are playing, and will be detailed by that mission’s briefing. Missions can be found here (Open Play mission) and here (Spec Ops Narrative missions). If I was the owner of a game store I would buy these kits in bulk and organize a terrain builder day for my store. I’d invite the community in to help me join in the fun (and get some volunteer labor out of it). The upfront cost might seem a waste at first but I promise if you get your community invested in the place they play at it will pay dividends. People will invite their friends and people will point out the terrain that they helped build – I’ve seen it happen! You (the store owner) will end up with some awesome terrain and the players will want to take better care of “your” stuff because they helped build it. Plus you’ll all have a great looking play space once the terrain builder is over. That sounds like a winner to me! The Battlezone: Mechanicus - Galvanic Magnavent set is an incredibly detailed and striking piece of terrain, letting you add multiple levels and create an even more immersive battlefield. Unique actions are actions detailed on an operative’s datacard that only they can perform, such as the Dakka Dash action found on the example datacard. If you're looking to add some interesting story elements to your gameplay and add even more immersion to your battlefield then the Vox-Antenna & Auspex Shrine Battlezone set is definitely a great choice.
