Superman: Birthright was DC’s first Superman origin story to be published after the debut of the Smallville TV series. Smallville’s influence can certainly be felt in this retelling, particularly in its focus on the unlikely friendship between a young Clark Kent and reclusive genius Lex Luthor. And while we certainly wouldn’t mind seeing the Clark/Lex friendship carry over into Gunn’s revamped DCU, that’s not why we’re singling out Birthright. Wonder Woman: Clark and Diana were attracted to each other when they met. In the beginning they thought about getting together, but after a very brief relationship they considered they were better as friends. Big Damn Heroes: Sameal rescues Mikey, Brennan and Aaron from a SWAT team in Issue 15. He is revealed to be Grandpa Rhodes. War Is Hell: The war on Terrenos is an effective stalemate between Lore and its resistance with neither side being able to make substantial gains (though fortune favors the rebels less). The heroes become super zealous to the point they don't hesitate to execute innocents while Lore is exhausted by the war effort himself.

After successfully pacifying a bear that he and his brother disturbed upon entering into his space and baiting into thinking they are friendly, Mikey kills it by stabbing it in the head. Brennan is disgusted that his brother would do such thing after just proving they were no threat to the bear, but Mikey says that he did that just to protect him. Though he has a justification, it serves as a reminder to Brennan that Mikey isn't as heroic as he seems. Superhuman Stamina: He has the ability to maintain continuous physical actions for an undefined period. Clark has unlimited stamina if he is consistently exposed to Earth sunlight. He saw that the earth had been transformed into a single-cell organism. [331] He also determined when a force field completely covered a spherical area. [332]Superman was only able to stop B13 by utilizing a Kryptonian battlesuit. However, while his plan had been to trap B13 in the suit, Lex Luthor made a deal with the supervillain to hand over his daughter (still housing Brainiac 2.5's essence) and allowed B13 to escape into space, in exchange for keeping Metropolis upgraded as the very real City of Tomorrow. Superman vowed to find Lena and rescue her — and to make Luthor pay. [122] On the flip side of the equation, Frank Miller and John Romita, Jr.’s Superman: Year One showcases Superman as anything but an ordinary person. The Clark Kent featured in this series is so powerful he’s effectively an untouchable god among paper-thin mortals. Ironically, as much as Miller is responsible for popularizing the idea of Batman being crafty enough to beat Superman in direct combat, Year One shows us that the Man of Steel was only ever humoring the Dark Knight.
