About this deal

When this option is selected the flash will flash stroboscopically, in sync with the shutter as it cross the focal plane. Although this allows the 580EX II to synchronize with shutter speeds higher than 1/200-second it also reduces light output as shutter speeds move progressively past the standard maximum sync speed. Every time I change batteries in the 580EX (above left), I have this little fear that I am going to break the battery door off while trying to get it open. When your Speedlite is set to this option it will function as the Sender (main) unit that controls any other Receiver (secondary) units that are set to the same Channel. It will also allow you to control the manual power ratio between Sender and Receiver groups.

The 580EX II is Canon's top-of-the-line, professional grade external flash - There are very few features missing in this one. ETTL II advances E-TTL by incorporating distance information from newer Canon lenses into flash exposure calculation. I wouldn't use throw-away alkaline cells unless I was in a pinch - but I always carry a spare set of charged eneloop in my bag. Note that given a fixed ISO setting, the longer your shutter speed, therefore the more effect that ambient light and any resulting preflash motion blur will have on the image.

Power settings are adjustable from full to 1/128 in 0.3- or 0.5-stop increments (depending on custom function setting). Press the Select/Set Button . When the power setting blinks, turn the Select Dial to the power setting of your choice. Press the Select/Set Button to set your choice. Once set, the display will no longer blink. If your subject distance is consistent (formal portraits for example), a manual flash output setting can eliminate shot-to-shot exposure variations. a) by Service Centers located outside of the United States and Canada WITHOUT CHARGE. Flashes can all fire at even power (Ratio Off), or you can set groups A, B and C to fire at different manual flash power levels. Press (don't hold) the Zoom/Wireless Select Button until Ratio blinks, then turn the Select Dial to make your choice. Press the Select/Set Button on the Master unit, then turn Select Dial to set the actual power level for each group. You now have to set the flash to your camera's or film's ISO (it works from ISO/ASA 25~1,600) and your camera's aperture ( f/1 to f/90) manually, and you have to use the camera's Av or M mode to use a fixed aperture. Set these on the flash by selecting the EM mode by tapping the MODE button, then tap the SEL/SET button once or twice until the ISO or aperture blink, spin the dial to select, then tap SEL/SET again to set.

inlineCloseID: typeof mcxPresetParam.inlineCloseID === 'string' ? mcxPresetParam.inlineCloseID : "mcxSurveyClose", The 430EX II is just about as good once you get it set up, just with sloppier controls and no catchlight card. If you can use a business card and rubber band as pros have been doing for decades as a catchlight card, the 430EX II is a great flash, just harder to set since it has two plus/minus buttons instead of a rear dial. During stroboscopic flash, the shutter must remain completely open while the Speedlite is flashing and close as soon as the flashing stops. Use the formula below to calculate the necessary shutter speed. Press the Zoom/Wireless Select Button to access the options listed above. When the option you have chosen is blinking, turn the Select Dial to cycle through the options in parentheses. As each option become available it will blink. Press the Select/Set Button to set your choice. Once set, the option will no longer blink. To use fill flash, set your exposure for the ambient light, then dial in -1 to -2 EV FEC (Flash Exposure Compensation).
