About this deal

When Cathbad who is still recovering from Covid disappears, after admitting he knew the dead girl, things do not look good. When Cassie Fitzgerald was at school in the late 90s, she and her friends killed a fellow student. Almost twenty years later, Cassie is a happily married mother who loves her job — as a police officer. She closely guards the secret she has all but erased from her memory. Since there's a dearth of forensic evidence, most of the police investigation involves interviewing people, looking at photos, observing CCTV footage, and mulling over their findings. Ruth doesn't have a big part in the inquiries, and it's DCI Nelson's inspiration that eventually solves the case. His only hint is a reference to the Raven King, an archaic title associated with King Arthur. Heading to Lancashire, Ruth learns that the bones not only redefine the narrative about King Arthur, but they've also disappeared.

Ruth Galloway is a remarkable, delightful character...A must-read for fans of crime and mystery fiction." — Associated Press The Last Remains By Elly Griffiths is published by Quercus Books and will be launched at St Andrew’s Hall, Norwich, on Thursday February 2, at 6.30pm, in conjunction with Jarrold.Unfortunately, the latest book in the series, The Last Remains, is the last book in the series. This news prompted heartbroken outcry from fans. However, Griffiths has left a door, or at least a window, open with the possibility of one day returning to this beloved world. Forensic archeologist and academic Ruth Galloway is a captivating amateur sleuth—an inspired creation. I identified with her insecurities and struggles, and cheered her on.” — Louise Penny, author of the best-selling Armand Gamache series Also, I was in King’s Lynn, doing an event at the Duke’s Head, and I passed the Exorcist’s House and it set me thinking about ancient King’s Lynn and how the town really has had lots of incarnations and how I could dig down a bit, if you’ll forgive the pun, into its layers,” she says. The Last Remains ends with the resolution of a twenty-year-old cold case and many ends tied up neatly in presumably “happily ever after bows,” but as stated before, fans will hunger for more from the author. Remarkable Writer, Addictive Books! Elly Griffiths is the pen name for Domenica de Rosa. She wrote four novels under that name, though they are out of print these days.

The unfolding mystery draws in DCI Nelson, and the stakes rise sharply as it becomes evident that someone is willing to resort to murder to keep the secrets of the bones under wraps. And the starting point is important for the end. Not vital. You would enjoy the story, but miss the subtleties. At the heart of this book is a fine crime drama, with mystery, suspense, twists, blind alleys, and red herrings. But it all becomes heart-aching as the characters involved are people you know, trust and maybe love a little. Not just Ruth and Nelson. Not even just Cathbad. If I was starting on this book I would be bewildered by the huge cast of characters, some of whom are important to Ruth and Nelson, some to the plot. Many to both. Landscape as a character If The Last Remains is the finale, it will give the author more time to write additional novels such as the post-WWII based series, The Brighton Mysteries, the YA Justice Jones mystery novels, and one can hope for another work featuring DI Harbinder Kaur from Bleeding Heart Yard .Another well-loved series character said farewell in Wild Fire, the last book in Ann Cleeves’ Shetland series. Griffiths expertly blends a well-wrought procedural with distinctive characters, academic politics, and romance. Fans old and new will be rewarded.” (For The Last Remains) — Publishers Weekly (starred review) Griffiths said that The Last Remains felt like the closing of a chapter for Ruth Galloway, and for herself as well. For this reason, her focus will be shifting to her other writing projects, but the possibility for Ruth to return in the future is always there. The Brighton Mysteries Books As Ruth and Nelson probe deeper into the case, they hear whispers of clandestine societies, tales of cannibalism, and ritualistic murders. They realise the labyrinth could be hiding more secrets than they know…
