About this deal

Using the man’s example, the gentleman card is knighted by cards 12 (the birds), 11 (the whip), 07 (the snake), and 35 (the anchor). So we could say that he might be hiding his difficulties communicating (birds+whip) with a dark haired, intelligent woman with whom he’s in a stable relationship with (snake + anchor).

Though the Portrait's lines are short, the challenge lies in putting all their indications into a coherent story. Along the horizontal axis, the Heart is mirrored by the Garden, which provides the additional information that you might meet this love interest at an upcoming gathering or within your community. Knighting Overall, this is a positive reading suggesting positive changes, especially in home and career, following some important decisions and possibly a few disappointments or obstacles. Some readers like to choose an appropriate significator for themselves or their querents before completing readings. More commonly, readers find the significators in the cards they draw, whether they draw three cards or 36 cards. PairsWhen you’re starting out with Lenormand, you’re not likely to jump right into the Tableau. You’re best starting out with simple 3-, 5-, and 7-card lines. It’s a good idea to practice them on a daily basis so you build your card-combination skills. You can get creative with your spreads, and you may already feel comfortable branching out in tarot readings.

The Tableau’s 36 cards are laid out in rows and columns and comes in two versions: The Piquet and the Tableau of Nines. However, we’re not done! Since the lady is also 3rd in the first row, it goes to say that she’s also reflected in the 3rd card in the bottom row below! So in fact, she’s also mirroring card #18, the Dog!To mirror, imagine that you draw vertical and horizontal lines that divide the spread precisely in half. Then, imagine folding the spread along each line. Whichever cards would be positioned on top of one another are mirrored. Lenormand Reader’s Handbook of Layouts will help you master all the techniques used to master Lenormand spreads - from simple lines, all the way to the Grand Tableau. I get a lot of questions about this spread. People want to know how to interpret it. While I can certainly give some form of method on how to interpret it, looking at a grand tableau is an art form. It is not about the corners mean this, that card means that, it’s about connecting everything together and coming with a coherent story. Did you notice that in Part I of Advanced Techniques for Reading the Lenormand Grand Tableau we didn’t have this preoccupation of hers? We knew she was worried about finances, but we weren’t really sure about what she was thinking deep down. The most basic significators are the Man and the Woman. If you identify as a woman, the Woman represents you. If you identify as a man, the Man represents you. If you want to gain insight into a particular part of your life, you can choose a different significator. If the querent identifies as female, what is at the center of their situation? Otherwise, how does their partner affect this state? If the cards were flipped (Letter + Sun), the interpretation differs slightly. The Letter becomes the noun, which could be a conversation or document.

The position of the querent in the grid is highly significant and the whole reading rests on this. Everything to the left of the querent is considered to be the influence of the past. Everything to the right, future influences. The lower the querent card falls on the grid, the less control of events they are said to have. Things above the querent are less in their control than things below. You can learn more and more about each card using reflection, mirroring and knighting. I'm not used to knighting as of yet but some people do that. I will not explain that here because I do not do it. It’s important to go through many layers of meanings and choose to use whichever of these best suits you and your question, so follow your own intuition, mix and match the methods as you see fit. A card “knights” a significator when it creates an L-shape with the significator, the way a knight moves in a game of chess. Knighting is one of the most advanced reading techniques, and it’s typically used to reveal hidden influences. The cards came to bear the famous name of the Sybille of the Salons, Marie Anne Lenormand - also known as Madame Lenormand, only after her death in the mid-19th century. She was rumored to have used a custom set of the same cards that are seen today, her own adaptation. Hers was a large legacy, having been the most celebrated psychic of her time. She was associated with grand figures such as Robespierre, Marat (both French revolutionaries), Empress Josephine (the wife of Napoleon Bonaparte) and Tsar Alexander I of Russia.

As Readers, we aspire to the Grand Tableau and similar Tableau-style layouts where we can read the cards in all sorts of amazing ways. But what is Tableau-style exactly, and what makes it so special? Example: When I did this draw I was single. Lets look at Man card to see who he is. The House is closer, it can be a family member. Tower , someone Tall (all of us are really tall). Coffin, he is ill or going through some pain. He is in house of Bear, can be father. In house of Man is Clouds, he is in trouble, going through a rough period. I would say its my father. He was dealing with too much at that time and all the cards are pointing to that. He had a surgery for anal fissure (Scythe in house of Snake) shortly after this spread. He lost his mother shortly after the spread (Coffin in house of Coffin). Where would I be able to find a more detailed write up on the 8×4 + 4 Grand Tableaux method please? I would like to learn about using the fate cards.

My personal Angel

OBSERVATION: Interestingly, the Gentleman (card #28) also mirrors the Dog and the Heart..!! What kind of interesting information did this just find out? We’ll discuss it in more detail in Petit Lenormand Love Relationships – Part 3 (to come!)
