On September 5, 2006, Huntley was rushed to the hospital after being found unconscious in his prison cell. He was taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield to receive treatment for a suspected drug overdose and was returned to prison the next day. Following the incident, the Home Office released a statement to the media: “Huntley continues to be managed according to Prison Service policy on the prevention of suicide and self-harm. In particular he will be subject to Assessment, Care in Custody and Teamwork procedures through which his risk will be continually assessed. The Prison Service works to minimize the risk of any prisoner taking their own life, but it cannot eliminate that risk entirely.” Members in Lincoln chose Hamish Falconer as their next candidate. Falconer worked as a diplomat with the Foreign Office between 2014 and 2020 and previously led the department’s terrorism response team. Members in Northampton North selected Lucy Rigby as their next candidate. Rigby is a lawyer by profession and former councillor on Islington council in London. Northampton South Peter Lamb was chosen as Labour’s next candidate for Crawley. He has been a councillor on Crawley Borough Council since 2010, serving as leader of the Labour group from 2012 to 2022, eight years of which he spent as leader of the council. Outside of politics, Peter works as a senior consultant for The Campaign Company. Crewe and Nantwich John sadly passed away at Hull Royal Infirmary on the 22nd May 2022 with his family by his side. In February 1999, he met 22-year-old Maxine Carr at a nightclub, and they moved in together after four weeks. The relationship endured despite some turbulent arguments, and in 2001, they moved to the town of Littleport, where Huntley took a job at a local center as the manager of a team of caretakers. Following the find, police arrested Huntley and Carr on suspicion of murder on August 17. Later that same day—13 days after the girls had disappeared—a game warden discovered the girls’ bodies near RAF Lakenheath, an airbase in Suffolk that was close to Huntley’s father’s home. It's the second year students have taken exams in-person, following adjustments previously made due to the pandemic. Exam watchdog Ofqual confirmed AS and A Levels have returned to pre-pandemic standards this year, however protection has been built into the grading process to recognise the disruption that students have faced to their studies. Kirsty McNeill has been selected as the next candidate for Midlothian. McNeill was a special adviser to former Prime Minister Gordon Brown during his time in No 10 and subsequently worked as strategy director for Brown and his wife Sarah. She currently serves as executive director of policy, advocacy and campaigns at Save the Children. Mid and South Pembrokeshire Alistair Strathern has been chosen as the candidate for Mid Bedfordshire. He is a former councillor in Waltham Forest, London, who represented Higham Hill ward. He worked as climate lead for insurance at the Bank of England. Mid Cheshire Stephen Witherden was selected as Welsh Labour’s candidate for Montgomeryshire and Glyndwr. He is reportedly a drama teacher from Wrexham. Morecambe and Lunesdale Dan Tomlinson has been selected as the next Labour candidate for Chipping Barnet. Last month a panel concluded there was “no evidence” that the social worker had insight into her misconduct. Fred Thomas was selected by members in Plymouth Moor View as their next candidate. He was formerly a Royal Marines captain. Redcar Local members in Dagenham and Rainham chose Margaret Mullane as their candidate for the next election. Mullane has managed incumbent MP Jon Cruddas’ office for the past 13 years. She has been a councillor on Barking and Dagenham council for 12 years. MacAlister currently serves as executive chair of Foundations, which researches and evaluates the effectiveness of family support services and interventions. He founded the social work charity Frontline and later chaired the government’s independent review of children’s social care. Corby Members in Gravesham chose Lauren Sullivan as their next candidate.
