About this deal

Initial sweet notes of lavender and candied citrus are followed by a herbaceous bouquet and a light coriander spice On the palate it’s quite sharp, with more citrus, plenty of spiciness, and with a vanilla creaminess and still a flavour of that malt. Even though it’s only slightly stronger than average at 43.3%, the alcohol definitely comes across, and all in all it’s a delightfully complex and pleasant taste. The finish is smooth, and is as fresh as everything else about this gin.

Lavender adds beautiful sweet floral notes and helps to balance the saltiness from the kelp and samphireNamed after the capital of Mull, Tobermory Gin has been distilled using inspiration from the island, the second largest of the Inner Hebrides. Unique to Tobermory Gin, a splash of spirit from the Tobermory whisky stills is added, creating a standout character, unlike any other. On the nose the juniper isn’t too powerful, and is balanced by a sweetness, perhaps from the elderflower. There are citrus aromas too, and a hint of maltiness from the whisky. It’s certainly unique.

Fresh juniper balanced with sweet orange and lemon, hints of coriander, gentle herbs and spices, with a luxurious, creamy mouth-feel and a subtle hint of sweet malt. Over 220 years later, and they’ve decided to add a gin to their range. There are 13 botanicals that go into the Hebridean Gin and these include juniper, tea, heather, elderflower, and sweet orange peel, which are fresh from the island if they grow there. There’s also an intriguing addition to both make the gin different and to connect it with their whisky heritage, as they add a drop or two of spirit from the whisky stills into the gin. I was glad to read that, as I think they’re going to be selling a lot of this gin. Scottish gin now has a reputation for quality, and this is only going to add to it. For a start, it’s a beautiful bottle which makes the most of Tobermory’s colourful houses, as you can see from the photos. Fill a tall glass with ice and add 50ml of Hebridean Mountain gin and a squeeze of your selected citrus fruit (we've chosen pink grapefruit). Try it on ice with tonic and dried hibiscus flowers, which give a lovely pink hue to the gin, and a slightly tart cranberry-like taste, which contrasts the gin’s natural sweetness. More Information We'll start the experience off with a taste of the award winning Tobermory Hebridean Gin, followed by a neat dram of our limited Tobermory Mountain Gin and a neat dram of our new distillery exclusive Tobermory Coast Gin. The experience will end on a classic Tobermory gin serve which you'll create yourself.

All of the botanicals including scotch lovage, samphire, sugar kelp and lavender, are steeped for a minimum of 24 hours in our base spirit. This is made up of Grain Neutral Spirit and a splash of spirit from our Tobermory whisky stills. The result is a unique savoury gin, inspired by the stunning shoreline on Mull. It was especially important for them to create something truly original and unique, like their island, so when the opportunity arose to secure a redundant John Dore & Co copper still from South Africa, the time felt right. They shipped it all the way to Mull, refurbished and installed it, and called it Wee Betty. (Betty’s a popular name for Scottish gin stills, as The Botanist from Islay is made in Ugly Betty.) Tobermory on the Scottish Hebridean island of Mull must be one of the prettiest towns in Scotland. How could its gin not taste good? As Wee Betty is a bit on the small side, there’s going to be limited production of the gin initially, but it will be ramped up as the distillery is about to install a second dedicated gin still in a new stillhouse.

Tobermory Distillery, known for their Tobermory and Ledaig Single Malt’s, has made its own original gin. Goes great with: A sprig of thyme, slice of blood red orange, a pinch of dried hibiscus flowers, tonic and ice. Rich creamy mouthfeel, sweet lemon infused rosehip with a bitter balance of Rowan berry, floral hints of heather and a warming ginger spice. These botanicals reflect the fruity character that Tobermory is known for in their standout Single Malt whisky. Starting as a blank canvas, the base spirit is distilled over and over until it is clean, fresh and ready to take on the vibrant array of flavours from the island’s rich palate.Sitting in the centre of the vibrant island community, from which we take our name, we are a thriving, expressive and unique distiller, true to our idyllic Hebridean home. Ensuring a true taste of the island is hugely important to the blend, as is demonstrated with the inclusion of a pinch of Hebridean tea, grown by a local on Mull.
