About this deal

In October 2008, Mellissa Fung, a reporter for CBC’s The National, was leaving a refugee camp outside of Kabul when she was kidnapped by armed men. She was forced to hike for several hours through the mountains until they reached a village; there, the kidnappers pushed her towards a hole in the ground. “No,” she said. “I am not going down there.” As a child, Amanda Lindhout escaped a violent household by paging through issues of National Geographic and imagining herself visiting its exotic locales. At the… the kid hit the dad on the head, hes unconscious. the third boy, max, theres something wrong with him, psyco. the brother of the girl in the house got her cell phone and managed to make a call to the police but had to hang up Audiobook: What do you get when you mix three men, two of them brothers and the other a psychopath, who decide to rob a convenience store in a sleepy suburban neighborhood; a local chief of police, Jeff Talley, ex-LAPD hostage negotiator trying to recover from a hostage situation that went horribly wrong; and a house where the robbers take refuge just happens to be where a mob accountant lives? A really good story. Shortly into the flight Mina receives a note from an anonymous passenger, someone intent on ensuring the plane never reaches its destination. Someone who needs Mina’s assistance and who knows exactly how to make her comply.

Three thugs botch a convenience store robbery and a man is shot. Now they're on the run and hole in a wealthy man's home, who happens to be there with his son and daughter. Chief of Police in this small, sleepy town, Jeff Talley, is a former SWAT and hostage negotiator who is battling personal demons from a bad negotiation years prior in LA. Now, he's thrust into the very thing he was hoping to escape, and until the Sheriffs can get there, it's all on him. For more than a month, Fung lived in that hole, which was barely tall enough to stand up in, nursing her injuries, praying and writing in a notebook. Under an Afghan Sky is the gripping tale of Fung’s… A good book you can enjoy reading at any time but it takes an exceptional book to lose yourself in when there’s a pandemic going on. Hostage is an exceptional book to invest time and emotions in. Set on a non stop flight from London to Sydney involving Mina a member of the cabin crew who gets involved in an impossible situation of saving her child or a plane full of people we are treated to a non stop thrillerAbsolutely, and those adaptations that were made to law enforcement negotiators to be more successful in the most volatile situations obviously have a higher level of success when you are dealing with friends, children, colleagues and spouses. Listening is always the cheapest concession we can make to anyone. Taking the time to listen and understand is a powerful tool to create a trusting relationship that helps resolve conflict and gain cooperation. From the latest Scandinavian serial killer to Golden Age detective stories, we love our crime novels! When I started reading, I'm pretty sure I didn't expect to be quite so emotionally affected by the characters' lives. Of course I expected some twists and turns, and hoped they would not seem obvious to me (after reading hundreds of books in this genre I do sometimes expect the unexpected!). But in this book many of the characters are proper people with nuances and layers - something often missing in thrillers and mysteries. This added so much emotional engagement with the story that I was actually crying with their frustrations and tension. And yes, there were certainly angles in the plot I had not foreseen at all!

Any mother can empathize with Mina and that love of her daughter was pivotal to the plot which threads were like octopus' tentatcles confusing me.

Your next book is Crisis Negotiations, Managing Critical Incidents and Hostage Situations in Law Enforcement by Michael J McMains and Wayman C Mullins. The ending was incredible. My favourite part of the book was actually the last few chapters. The genre changed into a psychological thriller and I loved it! I just wish there was more of it.
