About this deal

The Turner Historical Museum was established to promote and preserve the area’s history and is located inside the Leavitt Building near the town’s center.

Located in Maine’s Androscoggin County, Turner is a small country town that’s close to the Lewiston-Auburn metropolitan area. Size and depth– the larger the pond, the more wildlife it will attract. Butsize isn’t everything – even a mini pond in a pot will provide a habitat and water source for plenty of small creatures.Ideally, aim for a depth of 20–60cm (8in–2ft), which varies across the pond, as this willsuit the majority of pond flora and fauna. The cost of admission is dirt-cheap, and the items on display touch on the state’s history, economy, culture, and the natural world. In 2017 Weber was sued by former models over claims of sexual harassment during their shoots in the 90s. The cases were settled and Weber denied all accusations, but many of his former brands will no longer work with him.Pollinator-friendly marginals – such aslesser spearwort ( Ranunculus flammula), flowering rush ( Butomus umbellatus) and marsh marigolds ( Caltha palustris), whose flowers will attract bees, hoverflies and more. Bear Pond in Waterford is the town’s deepest lake. While only 250 acres in surface area and four miles in circumference, Bear Pond is 72 feet deep. Mid-spring to early summer is the best time for planting, once the water has warmed a little and plants are starting into growth.

Surrounded by scenic farmlands and river views, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a more beautiful area. It’s possible to take a guided tour or explore the farm’s hiking trails on your own.Underwater plants for cover – oxygenators such as hornwort ( Ceratophyllum demersum) or water starwort ( Callitriche autumnalis) give tadpoles and other larvae plenty of underwater cover from predators. For those visiting a new area who aren’t sure what there is to see and do, there’s no better place to start than a local historical museum. Ponds that weren’t specifically designed for wildlife can easily be adapted to welcome a wider range of creatures. Autumn is the least damaging time for making changes, after the height of the breeding season but before amphibians go into hibernation. The sanctuary is part of the Stanton Bird Club, which has been involved in wildlife conservation work for nearly eight decades. Considered by many to be the state’s premier live performance venue, the Gendron Franco Center on Cedar Street in Lewiston is a great community resource that should be taken advantage of when you’re visiting the area.

Sloping sides– at least one side of the pond should have a long, shallow slope. This allows easy access for wildlife and, when water levels fluctuate, creates a damp habitat for smaller creatures. If you’re making a container pond that isn’t sunk into the ground, add a ramp on the outside and the inside. Their menu includes homemade soups, sandwiches, and wraps, and their popular breakfasts are served all day long. Plants with tall stems for emerging larvae–such as water iris ( Iris ensata). Thelarvae ofdamselflies and dragonfliesneed stems like thistocrawl up when they’re ready to leave the pond and turn into adults. Turner’s Bear Pond is located just off Route 19 and is most well-known for its clean beaches and excellent year-round fishing.

3. Androscoggin River

The elevated ground on which the powder house sits gives terrific scenic views of the town of Hallowell and the Kennebec River below. The park’s trails are open year round. In the winter, they are popular for cross-country skiers and snowshoers. At more than 300 acres, it’s possible to get confused and even lost, so be sure you’re aware of how far you’ve gone and in what direction. From the west shore boaters and property owners can take in magnificent views of Bear Mountain. On the north end of the pond find Bear Mountain Inn, open year round for guests and gatherings. Nearby on the northwest shore is Camp Wigwam, a summer camp for boys founded in 1910. As you drive into the park there are goats on either side. We drove into a fair size field and we were told we could go anywhere we wanted.
