About this deal

What a debut feature Neil Marshall had with Dog Soldiers in 2002. Taking the fairly standard ‘group trapped’ movie trope, and pitting squaddies against werewolves, he crafted a tight, scary, gory and funny film that he’s yet to better. Oh, The Descent might be a better horror film, indeed one of the best horror films of all time, but, in terms of all round satisfaction, Dog Soldiers is the one to beat. Shame his filmic outings have been all downhill ever since. A new restoration from the original camera negative approved by Director Neil Marshall and Cinematographer Sam McCurdy In 1995, director Neil Marshall pitched to co-producer Keith Bell his idea of a low-budget soldiers vs. werewolves film. [5] The filmmakers were introduced to the Victor Film Company as a sales agent, who introduced them to producer Christopher Figg. [6] The project was later taken to AFM, where producer David E. Allen became interested in the project after seeing artwork and the script. [7] Second Sight released a limited edition 4K Ultra HD box set in May 2022. [34] as well as a Standard Edition 4K UHD set [35] and a Blu-ray release. [36] Sequel [ edit ]

October is here and we’re all looking for films to enjoy for Halloween. With a new cinema re-release and digital release for a 4K restoration of Dog Soldiers, it is easier than ever to make this recommendation for the werewolf movie. This is one of the best, if you can go to the cinema to see it, do so. When a group of foul-mouthed squaddies are out on training in the middle of nowhere, nobody could have guessed their opponents would turn out to be vicious werewolves. Trapped in a family home and surrounded by the hairy beasts, it’s not long before the group find themselves with a no-win situation they must survive, and even worse they may even miss the England vs Germany game. Dog Soldiers is being re-released in UK cinemas on 23rd October. The new restoration is available digitally now. Under interrogation, Ryan reveals that he was sent on a government mission to capture a live werewolf for study and exploitation as a weapon; Cooper's squad was supposed to be the bait, and considered expendable. An enraged Wells and Cooper attempt to kill Ryan, but he transforms into a werewolf and escapes into the forest. It is revealed that the Uath family, the owners of the house, are the werewolves. Two Still Galleries – Photos From The Film And Rare Photos From Production Designer Simon Bowles And Special Effects Artist Dave Bonneywell’s ArchivesThe film contains homages to H. G. Wells as well as the films The Evil Dead, Zulu, Aliens, The Matrix and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. [11] Writing [ edit ] Miska, Brad (7 September 2020). "Neil Marshall's 'Dog Soldiers' Gets Restored 4K Release in the UK!". Bloody Disgusting . Retrieved 5 October 2020. A " Little Red Riding Hood"-inspired web series, Dog Soldiers: Legacy, was announced in September 2011 by producer and Kismet vice-president, Allen, now going by D. Eric Allen. A teaser trailer for the series was filmed in northwest Arkansas over the last weekend of August 2011. Directed by Ryan Lightbourn, the trailer included members of Allen's family, including his grandmother Pat "Nan" Allen and his sister Emmy Allen, as Red. Allen also said the Dog Soldiers sequel was in early pre-production. [40]

Minns, Adam (4 April 2002). "UK horror Dog Soldiers Wins at Brussels Festival". ScreenDaily.com ( Screen International) . Retrieved 26 July 2012. Taste of Cinema writer David Harkin states that " Dog Soldiers ditches the drama of the original Wolfman of the 1940s and pushes Dog Soldiers into Aliens territory as seven-foot lycanthropes besiege a tiny cottage while macho soldiers fight for their lives". [21] SHOULD I GET THIS?: Absolutely. There have been previous Blu-ray releases (only available here as US imports), but these were limited by the inferior source materials available at the time.Perhaps the centrepiece of the new extras is Werewolves Vs. Soldiers, a one hour documentary with cast and crew reflecting on the production of Dog Soldiers whilst Marshall’s early short film, Combat (1999) is also included. Juxtaposing imagery of a night out down the pub with war movie sound effects and music, it makes for an appropriate supporting feature that sets the vibe nicely for the main attraction. Sitting around the campfire telling each other scary stories, it is Pertwee’s character Sgt. Harry Wells who truly makes an impact on his men. Delivered in a way that draws it’s audience in and keeps their attention, it is perfect to set up a jump scare that comes at just the right time. The scare though does not lessen the impact of the story he tells, and many horror fans love that scene for how much of a masterclass it is, not only in acting but also Marshall’s direction. An early poster of Dog Soldiers: Fresh Meat was released with the tagline "Coming 2014" across the bottom on 23 March 2014. [41] D. Eric Allen announced that a prequel and another sequel are in the planning stages, and Fresh Meat would be released on 20 December 2014. [42] This date passed with no release and no additional updates on the film's status.
