Reviewers were divided in their opinions of the musical and the capture itself. John Serba, writing for Decider, stated “it’s not an expensive production, merely a filmed version of the stage version… And the result is fine, just fine.” Serba also agreed with some of the in-person critics in claiming that the musical was a “diluted form” of its movie predecessor. Meanwhile, Ashley Hajimirsadeghi stated on MovieWeb“With great performances, this is one not to miss.” In August 2022 it was announced that the capture of Heathers: The Musicalwould be available to stream on The Roku Channel. Viewers were not required to have a Roku device, as the stream was to be made available online and via all Roku apps.

The lad was extremely weak and poorly cast, he had no presence or charisma and just blandly did the basics very averagely. All are guided by incredibly crafted music and choreography that bring Heathers further to life. On the surface the film may not have been crying out for a musical adaptation, but it certainly does it no harm. If anything, it offers another perspective on this truly captivating tale. I'm also not convince the story in this is good or makes sense, Veronica technically kills someone and although they try and loosely make it look more his fault, technically it's still on her, it took very little persuasion to hide it and not report it etc. Also the heather who goes didn't really do much that I'd say it was fair. Then the actions continually of supposed heroes of the story are just odd. Veronica isn't particularly likeable and her attempts at humour aren't very good, her voice becomes grating and her mannerisms poor. Heatherswas filmed last year at its London home, starring some of its original 2021 off-West End cast, including Ailsa Davidson as Veronica Sawyer. Following the successful Heathers UK tour, Simon Gordon and Maddison Firth joined the London cast and appeared in the filming.
