By default, the Mode shift button lets you switch between SmartShift modes. When SmartShift is enabled, you can use the scroll wheel in either ratchet mode or hyper-fast spin mode. The software will then adjust the settings on the mouse based on the reflectiveness of the surface on which you’re playing, for instance. Most players won’t find this overly useful, but if you’re trying to min-max performance, every little helps.
