An Ovitrap, a tool for the collection of eggs from tiger mosquitoes: In this case, an ovitrap type used for the monitoring of the Asian tiger mosquito Aedes albopictus in the Swiss canton of Ticino. And I want to reiterate my points about this now because these mosquito dunks really do work. How do mosquito dunks work?
Mosquito dunks work slowly, taking a few hours to release its Bti. But its effect on stagnant water does last for at least 30 days. That means it takes that amount of days before that specific body of water will potentially be infested with larvae again. Bti is used all over the United States for the control of mosquitos. In fact, Bti has been used for aerial spraying in several states to help control mosquitos as it can be sprayed over ponds, lakes, rivers, and streams. All forms of standing water provide a habitat to mosquito larvae. If these products have not been melted down, they can be dangerous when consumed by pets. The Bti can cause cats and dogs sever stomachaches and nausea. So if it’s been eaten, you should go to a vet right away.The active and primary ingredient in mosquito dunks is Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies Israelensis (Bti), a dried bacterium which is registered with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and helps not only against mosquitoes but also fungus gnats. They head straight to the source of the problem, which is what makes them so successful. Dunks don’t even harm beneficial insects, like honeybees, ladybugs, and butterflies. They’re also eco-friendly and frequently used for organic gardening. Also, many experts still warn users to not use this product in drinking water. You shouldn’t get treated water near your eyes and open wounds either. Even if it hasn’t been thoroughly researched on, the Bti might wreak havoc on your body. Mosquito dunks are about two inches in diameter and have a narrow hole in the middle so that you can use a piece of string, wood, or metal to place the dunk where you want it to go.
