About this deal

My demo unit has a Core i7-1165G7 processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB PCIe NVMe solid state drive, so the scores listed below are all for a model featuring that setup. Mouse works really well. So well, in fact, that I barely missed having a touchscreen. Text input using the on-screen keyboard can be a little tedious, but most other things are very easy to use with just the game controller buttons including launching and closing applications, moving, copying, or deleting files and folders, and, of course, playing games. ONEXPLAYER Review: (Handheld gaming PC with 8.4 inch display, Intel Tiger Lake, and built-in controllers) - Liliputing Close Search for: Search I wouldn't recommend for everyone as there is a bit of legwork required to get some games working on this, but when you do it's a great experience.

You can manually rotate the screen from the Windows 10 Display settings menu, but if you do that the mouse mode will still think the computer is in landscape, so you’ll need to push left to move the cursor up, right to move it down, and so on. In some tests, the extra power made a small difference, if any at all. But the differences seemed most noticeable in multi-core CPU tests and in some 3D graphics tests. Let’s start this section with a few notes on battery life. When reviewing laptops I always have a hard time giving battery life estimates because use cases can vary so widely, so a laptop that dies after 5 or 6 hours of web work and productivity tasks may run for 10 hours or longer when streaming videos from YouTube or Netflix.

The 7-inch version of this premium handheld is eclipsed by the imminent Steam Deck.

Forza Horizon 4 showed that it isn't just about the framerate though, as there were glitches in the game regardless of the settings used. You'll also struggle to get some games running smoothly no matter how much you try tweaking them—Cyberpunk 2077 for instance did not make for a good experience, even at lower resolutions and graphical settings. Now on to the benchmarks. As mentioned in the technical specs, the Win MAX 2021 does have the higher 22 Watt default TDP compared to the 20 Watts on the Win 3 and ONEXPLAYER. The Win MAX 2021 has a 2 Watts advantage and potentially 10% higher performance. As we are testing out of the box so to speak, we will keep the TDP to 22 and also show adjusted scores in the summary. PassMark In fact, thanks to the computer’s two USB4 ports, you can connect an external monitor, mouse, and keyboard and use the ONEXPLAYER like a desktop PC. With a 2.5K Resolution of 2560×1600 and 358PPI (Pixels-per-inch), the ONEXPLAYER game console can render games sharply.

Steam Big Picture mode feels pretty much essential here, as it offers up a simple interface that doesn't rely on a mouse for the simplest of operations. Obviously, that only works for games that you have on Steam, which isn't quite the catch-all that it once was, but it's better than nothing. You can also add non-Steam games to the interface, although this can be janky at times as well. At first I attributed this to a Windows Update that I had just installed. I assumed it had somehow overwritten the touchscreen driver, but One Netbook supplied me with the original drivers and installing them didn’t fix the issue. So I did a system restore and re-installed Windows to the state it was in when the computer first arrived. No dice. The touchscreen still didn’t work, and while it’s possible there’s a software fix that we’ve overlooked, I’m starting to think it might be a hardware issue. This portable gaming handheld can also emulate Retro Gaming Titles with ease, allowing you to even emulate PlayStation 3 titles. This is a breakthrough in computing, especially in this form-factor. Originally released in 2013, GTA V has gone on to be one of the best selling games of all time, and has remained consistently popular since release. Overall the scores are very good. We can’t do a direct comparison with other models as we are using different settings. But it is on par with the ONEXPLAYER 1S in comparison.

watt-hours divided by 20 watts equals 3 hours. Of course, the processor isn’t the only thing that consumes power, there’s also the memory, storage, and display. But on a gaming PC, the CPU and graphics are two of the most energy-hungry components. The ONEXPLAYER also punches a little above its weight class in gaming and other tasks that put stress on a system’s resources. While most laptops with Intel Tiger Lake chips are configured to run at 15 watts, the ONEXPLAYER is set to a 20 watt TDP by default, and there’s a Turbo button that lets you increase that value to 28 watts for an extra power boost at any time. I also ran all of these synthetic benchmarks twice – once in standard mode with the processor running at 20 watts, and again in Turbo mode with the processor set to 28 watts. The ONEXPLAYER is essentially another in the line of [Switch]-styled windows gaming handhelds that presents an opportunity to play AAA games on a handheld device. Unlike it’s sister subseries (Motorsport), the Forza Horizon games shy away from realistic racing simulation. Instead, they focus on a more arcade-y, open-world style of racing, mixing in a variety of stunt challenges to shake up the standard formula. This will bring you to the boot options menu that allows you to boot from a flash drive or enter the UEFI settings if you want to change your device boot priority or a few other settings. It’s able to handle PSP, PS2, PS3, GameCube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, and Xbox gaming reasonably well but struggles with Xbox 360 emulation. Benchmark performance

The fact the Onexplayer is a full PC, with all the versatility and compatibility that comes with running Windows 10 ultimately works in its favour. Microsoft's OS can make for a clunky touch interface though, especially when you're just trying to get a game up and running, and it often doesn't feel like the premium solution it should be capable of. It does mean that the full wealth of PC gaming is open to you though, and that's probably worth having to jump through a few hoops to enjoy. I was dubious how an onboard GPU could possibly handle AAA games but the new intel Iris chip is very impressive. An eGPU is essentially a dedicated graphics card (of your choice) that is contained within a separate enclosure (also your choice!), and provides power and protection to the card. The ONEXPLAYER can then connect to this eGPU enclosure, and the two devices can work in tandem as if they were a normal PC. Having used the Onexplayer Mini for a little while now, it highlights a couple of things about this handheld specifically, but also the market in general. The first is that Windows performs an important role in how versatile this handheld is—apps that you know and love just run on it. Got an old emulator you want to try out? It'll take you seconds to see how it fares. Nvidia Frameview? No worries. GoG Galaxy, Epic Games, you name it, they all just work straight out of the box. Also coming with 12MB three-level cache. This makes the ONEXPLAYER Gaming Handheld a beast for its size. Plenty Storage and RAM
