About this deal

Set your aperture at f8 and focus at 12 feet and the blue depth of field scale at the bottom of the viewfinder shows approxiamtely 6 feet to infinity as being in focus.

The supplied lens hood is made of plastic, but it is very small and discreet, and doesn’t detract particularly from the overall look of the lens. Shooting with the same focal length as the X100 series on the amazing new bodies, sensor and processor of the X-Pro2 and X-T2 only points to an actual serious showdown between them and the upcoming X100F (?The fact of the matter is, in the low light situations I find myself in a lot, I will end up resorting to the F1. For the Fuji 23mm f2 on an X-Pro2 I’d set the lens at approximately 12 feet at f8 and everything from about 6 feet to infinity is in focus. And while weather sealing is nice if you shoot out in the beach or dusty areas, does WS really matter? Of course, the depth of field was still in the shot even though the in-camera scale was incorrect but it’s nice to know you can use this scale when setting up your shots moving forward. Of course, this is purely subjective, and others may prefer the new “rocket" shape design, but personally I prefer the more traditional barrel style lens design.

The best thing about it of course is that its so much smaller and this means with the X-T2, those that use the flip screen can have a lot more latitude with the shots they take (even using AF-C) with less weight in the arms. Either way, it’s a pretty rare occurrence which generally only happens when pointing the lens directly towards a very bright light source. I’m sure that some pixel peepers can quantify how the faster lens is better on paper, but the smaller lens performs great in the real world.

version is great –good enough anyway for my need–and the weather resistant construction is a nice touch, especially when combined to the X-Pro2. Now it’s nothing like a Lomo lens that produces images that look as if they’ve been run through an Instagram filter. The Fujifilm XF 23mm f2 is a standard wide angle prime lens designed for Fujifilm’s X-series mirrorless cameras.

I could go on about the image quality of this lens – but have a look at the sample images on this page and decide for yourself! To be honest: sometimes, at the end of a day, I don’t have a single shot that I really really like, but on other days I come home with two or more. Film Photography, Camera Review, Top 10 Review Morten Byskov November 30, 2020 Nikon, Nikon EM, 35mm film, Film Photography, Nikon EM 50mm f/1. In my summer holidays, I started my first street photography trip to three different cities: Amsterdam, Cologne, Frankfurt.Small enough to be used discreetly for street photography, but rugged enough to cope with whatever the weather could throw at it. Nevertheless, the 23mm f2 lens is arguably the better of the series when looking at micro-contrast and colours. The XF23mmF2 R WR is great for low-light use, helping X Series users to keep shooting handheld, but it is also useful when you want to blur the background for professional-looking portraits. It’s rare for a false confirmation of focus to be displayed, and it’s only the very darkest conditions that the lens gives up entirely.

In recent years, Fujifilm has been proving themselves to be very active in their lens development, with the company now boasting a fairly comprehensive range of lenses. The lens cap and cap are both made from plastic, but metal lens caps can be purchased as extras to replace plastic ones. Photos of test charts are taken across the range of apertures and zooms (where available), then analyzed for sharpness, distortion and chromatic aberrations. I then roughly matched the subject size with the newer XF 23mm f2 and again shot with both lenses at their maximum apertures. At first glance there’s not a huge difference in terms of depth-of-field here, given the one stop difference and wide coverage. When planning a trip I always contemplate what I will encounter on the journey, what types of images I hope to come home with, and how I plan to capture them with the gear I bring. The lenses work very well together and, with both using the same 43mm filter size, I definitely appreciated the ease of switching filters between the two, without having to mess around with step-down rings. I use my Fuji 23mm with my old Fuji X-T2 and the new Fujifilm X-T4 and find that this lens body combo is the perfect match.
