About this deal

The switches can be replaced when worn out, and even if the battery fails and you can’t find a replacement, the Keydous NJ80 actually works over USB-C, without the battery connected. I greatly appreciated the simplicity as it meant I didn’t have to constantly refer to the user manual to remember how to make adjustments or change modes.

You could argue that it’s saving weight versus a more premium aluminum build, but this is already a pretty hefty board thanks to its premium interior components and a beefy battery. This is mitigated a bit by the second issue, adjusting the brightness level seemed to make very little difference (the same goes for speed on the keystroke wave setting). played well with my ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WiFi)’s built in Bluetooth, powered by the Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 adapter. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy, and if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Right away those two things intrigued me and I was excited to hop into seeing how the NJ80-AP would stack up against the others. Bluetooth is FN+1/2/3, and because it is set like this, there isn’t a separate process to go through to save a Bluetooth device. There are two ways to turn off the backlighting on the NJ80-AP, but their functionality varies in a key way.

The NJ80-AP is a bit on the higher side for cost, but if you are looking for a fully customizable keyboard, you won’t have to constantly charge; this is the board you’ve been looking for. The rubber feet are white, which will inevitably collect dirt and change color… They are very grippy, so you don’t have to worry about the Keydous NJ80 moving around your desk during furious typing sessions. Of course, the brighter the backlighting is, the more it drains the charge, but the difference seemed to be minimal. While you might notice Cherry here, Keydous aren’t offering any Cherry MX switches options for the Keydous NJ80, at least at the time of writing.

Additionally, the manual includes FCC requirements for the device and contact information for the manufacturer. I decided to reward myself with a brass plate, which you don’t always get with most mainstream keyboards. The slightly larger cap was a bit easier to hit once I got used to it, and it would probably be especially nice for people with larger fingers as well.It is strictly forbidden to place the product in high temperature, high pressure and direct sunlight. You can fit any 2-pin switch you want, so the customization potential of this keyboard is very good. While this is standard practice for most pre-built boards, this is not what you want to see on a enthusiast-oriented board.

The software is very limited, with most of the options available on the keyboard itself, but you can reassign all the keys on the Keydous NJ80, with the exception of the volume knob and Fn key.

In my testing, I didn’t find any reason to refute Keydous’ claims, as I never had the NJ80 die on me when I was using it. I’m glad to say that it isn’t the case with the NJ80, Keydous has included some superbly well-lubed stabilizers right out of the box. You can go into the Function layer and laboriously see which functions are assigned to the function row.
