About this deal

I was going to do some screen shots that compared this to the previously-released Blu-ray, but someone has already done that. On Your Six: Thirty Years of Top Gun is a 5-part mini documentary created for the 2016 30th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray—as such, some of you will have seen it before. Top Gun follows the far-too-reckless and dangerous Naval Aviator Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (played to iconic perfection by Tom Cruise) through an unexpected journey of deep self-reflection. Cue dog-fight training sequences played out to classic jukebox cuts, while thrusting young guns do 200 push-ups on the runway. She earned her Bachelor’s in Historic Preservation from the University of Mary Washington, where she focused on Colonial American history, British literature, and historic architecture.

minute mark, for example) where very fine jet fighter screeches are heard in the distant background. Her very first fandom experience was when her mother took her to a Star Trek convention for her 4th birthday, where she met stars and danced with a kindergarten Klingon. While others are shooting at him, aiming to kill him and his fellow soldiers, he has to learn to work with others. Again, best looking version of the film and you do get a decent upgrade over the blu Ray, totally recommend! Narrow Targets and the Future – A look at the impact of the film upon its release and how the movie’s enduring appeal has changed filmmaking.

Right from the opening signature theme and stunning real footage of F-14s taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier, cast against a gorgeous trademark Tony Scott bronzed low sun backdrop, to the launch of Danger Zone as we are introduced to Cruise's career-defining hotshot pilot Maverick, 1986's Top Gun - for all the faults you could possibly attempt to level at it - is some kind of strangely perfect 80's creation.

Suffice it to say that the movie has enough action to satisfy all of the men and enough romance to satisfy all of the women and no doubt why it was so successful at the box office. Top Gun: Maverick sees Tom Cruise reprising the role of Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, which he originated in the 1986 film Top Gun. Behind-the-Scenes Featurette – A mostly promotional piece (before they became so commonplace) with some interviews with the late Don Simpson as well as Tom Cruise and a few others. When the competition gets fierce, there’s only one question to be answered: Can Maverick reign in his personal demons enough to beat these elite pilots. The plot trajectory may be predictable to the point of ridicule (like Richard Gere in An Officer and a Gentleman, Tom is going up where he belongs) but the emotional beats are as finely choreographed as the stunts.

Extras: Language(s): English, Top Gun: French - Parisian, German, Italian, Portuguese - Brazilian, Russian, Spanish - Castilian, Spanish - Latin American, Top Gun: Maverick: Czech, French - Canadian, Hungarian, Polish, Top Gun: Japanese, Hard of Hearing Subtitles: English, Subtitles: Top Gun: English, Chinese - Cantonese - Hong Kong, Chinese - Mandarin - Simplified (PRC), Chinese - Mandarin - Traditional (Taiwan/Singapore), Czech. Yes, the film that literally epitomizes the Cold War as much as anything else out there, Top Gun gave us the action whereas Dr. Of course, HDR and WCG make all the difference, doing the heavy lifting and boosting the vibrance with the added enhancement of Dolby Vision, leaving the stunning trademark Tony Scott style prevalent throughout, whether it be in the low sun opening sequence or the subsequent sun-kissed scenery, with the brown filter heavily - but stylishly - utilised, and the picture running a broader gamut of inky blacks to peak whites. Halfway into it, just when we can't stand to be around the guy anymore, it seems even Maverick is starting to annoy himself. This recklessness aside, when the lead flyer in his carrier squadron loses his edge and washes out, Maverick and his RIO “Goose” (Anthony Edwards) get the chance of a lifetime—the opportunity to fly against the best of the best at the Navy’s Top Gun fighter combat school.Given the film’s use of the Super 35 process, you’d expect to see grain and it’s definitely here, but it’s natural looking, moderate, and never distracting. This is largely thanks to a brand-new remaster and restoration of the original 35mm camera negatives, which was later mastered to a new 4K digital intermediate. A few years later, she would find herself swept up in the wonders of Middle Earth and the ever-expanding universe of Star Wars. That same year, Maggie joined as a co-host on the Star Wars podcast ‘Outer Rim Beacon,’ and has appeared as a guest on numerous Star Wars podcasts and other pop culture podcasts. Naturally students need teachers and they’re led by “Viper” (Tom Skerritt) and “Jester” (Michael Ironside).

Granted, the movie is three and a half decades old and we’ve come a long way in terms of how movies sound but with that said the movie just seems to lack the punch that the modern movies do. Leading a phenomenal cast including Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, Anthony Edwards, Meg Ryan and Tim Robbins, Tom Cruise soars as Maverick, the young, in-your-face U. All the while, vocals remain well-prioritized with outstanding intonation in the more emotionally-driven moments. Paramount has been responsible for some fantastic surround sound mixes over the years, and this one is no exception.

Paramount's US 4K Blu-ray release of Top Gun beats the UK disc off the deck by a couple of weeks (now finally landing with an identical disc and the perfect companion piece in Days of Thunder 4K), delivering absolutely stunning native 4K video, complete with Dolby Vision enhancement, as well as a tremendous Dolby Atmos track and some nice new extras too. The real winner, in the end, are the memorable songs, filling not only the entire soundscape but also subtly bleeding into the sides and overheads for a satisfyingly good time. In the local bar, an underused Jennifer Connelly serves up drinks and love-interest sass (Kelly McGillis was apparently not invited to this party) while Miles Teller’s Rooster bangs out Great Balls of Fire on the piano, prompting a flashback to Maverick cradling Anthony Edwards’s Goose, who got famously cooked in the first film. Personally, I found myself powerless to resist; overawed by the ‘“real flight” aeronautics and nail-biting sky dances, bludgeoned by the sugar-frosted glow of Cruise’s mercilessly engaging facial muscles, and shamefully brought to tears by moments of hate-yourself-for-going-with-it manipulation.
