Learn the Fantastic Foundations approach through a one day training course with creator, Jane Considine. When pupils are familiar with these nine elements, they are able to ensure that they are incorporated into their writing. The Large Writing Rainbow Symbols are a set of brightly coloured, hard wearing resources for use in all aspects of the teaching and learning process. Once the children can segment sounds, they begin to label the pictures they see with words and soon they use these words to formsentences. In Reception, children are immersed in a language rich environment, with stories at thecore of their learningand the Early Years Curriculum. We use Letter-join as the basis of our handwriting policy that covers all the requirements of the 2014 National Curriculum.Writing at Keresley is centred around a high quality story that captures the children's interest from the outset. By using these lenses, pupils will become more confident on the range and repertoire of aspects to showcase in their independent writing. This approach supports a systems view to teaching writing that can be applied to any text, novel, picture book or film.

Following the sentence stacking, children are given the opportunity to show what they have learnt by planning and writing their own independent piece of writing. Children learn to sentence stack, focusing on the style of the author and impact of words and sentences. We aim to make handwriting an automatic process that does not interfere with creative and mental thinking. After they have written their independent piece, their work is marked by the class teacher who identifies different aspects of their written piece to be edited.

Children are immersed in a key text, revealing plot points one at a time through the 'slow reveal'to maintain the excitement of revealing the story. Model section – the teacher close models a sentence that outlines clear writing features and techniques. The Writing Rainbow poster is a classroom resource that encourages interaction and the collection of ideas during the writing process. This part of the unit is heavily scaffolded with lots of teacher input and modelling of vocabulary use, sentence construction and use of grammar with reference to the 3 writing lenses. This includes project sessions, structure of English lessons, writing non-negotiables, assessment and marking.

The Training Space

Editing flaps are extra pieces of paper that stick onto their writing and show the additional sentences added into their work.There is a focus on drama, oracy and language development, equipping children with fundamental knowledge and skillsthat will enable themto be successful throughout their lives. The grammar rules of our language system and an accessible way to target weaknesses in pupils grammatical and linguistic structures. Pupils who are familiar with this poster find that it reminds them of the wealth of ways they can showcase flair and structures independently during their ‘Deepen the Moment’ aspects of writing. Now in her 25th year in the primary education profession, Jane’s incredible knowledge and expertise provides a solid framework for teachers, enabling her to support, enrich and sharpen the teaching of reading, writing and spelling.

The FANTASTICs system, which is also used in the teaching of reading,allows children to identify the nine elements that all text types are comprised of. At the end of Key Stage 2 all pupils should have the ability to produce fluent, legible and, eventually, speedy joined-up handwriting, and to understand the different forms of handwriting used for different purposes.The Writing Rainbow is the essential teaching and learning resource for all schools that teach writing using Jane Considine’s systems. Children are challenged to ‘Deepen the Moment’ which requires them to independently draw upon previously learnt skills and apply them to their writing during that chunk.
