That said – if you’re looking to livestream with the FLX-6, you could connect it to an external interface like an iRig Stream or a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 and route that out to your device of choice. The large jog wheels with a new rubberised finish on the outer ring make pitch bending and scratching feel natural, and with the On Jog Display, you can keep an eye on the playhead position. Adding flare to sets and mixing between genres, no matter what the key or BPM of the next track is, can be flawless thanks to the new Merge FX feature.

Plug and play capability is available via the in-built soundcard and DJ Performance functions with either rekordbox or Serato DJ Pro.When you activate Merge FX, you can see the software engaging built-in FX and sampler to try and simulate the sound. The layout of the controls on the DDJ-FLX6-GT is the same as its predecessor, echoing club-standard CDJ + DJM setup, so you can perform intuitively. The four-channel mixer section of the FLX-6 allows for easy four-deck DJing, which opens up many possibilities that other competing midrange devices don’t have. Pioneer DJ supply the DDJ-FLX6 with both Rekordbox (the Flex is a hardware unlock device) and Serato DJ Pro.Although, just as with the Pad Scratch mode, using the effect in performance is challenging and often doesn’t sound great. Because there are four channels in use, tracks can be played on decks 1 and 2, while scratching can be done on decks 3 and 4.

The VirtualDJ software will also be available to use with the original DDJ-FLX6 (black/white models) by updating the unit to the latest firmware version, and TRAKTOR PRO 3 will be available to use with either model by downloading the mapping files (TSI file). Instead of a standalone mixer section and a metal-reinforced body (like the SR2), the FLX6 sports four channels and full-sized jog wheels – two very enticing features that are generally only found on higher-end Pioneer DJ gear. Jog Cutter allows the jog wheel to be moved back and forth to produce slick scratching sounds, allowing the user to perform like a professional battle DJ.

If you’re using Serato DJ Pro instead of rekordbox, then Scratch Bank can be used to trigger samples through the performance pads. The new Merge FX feature makes it easy to add flair to sets and mix between genres, regardless of the BMP or Key of the next track.
